Interview: Gilbert Gauci Discusses The Release Of The Remix For “Breathe”!

Upcoming singer-songwriter Gilbert Gauci recently created waves with his debut solo release “Breathe”, which swiftly caught the attention of pop music lovers everywhere.

Now, Gilbert is aiming to capture the hearts of music lovers once again with the remix of his incredible debut release & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about his latest musical piece. Check out what he had to say below.

Hey Gilbert, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Gilbert: I’m a 26-year-old pop singer-songwriter from a small island called Malta. I’m very musically driven; in all honesty, I don’t stop listening to music. I’m also quite fond of environmental conservation and sustainability.

I have been singing ever since I can remember. Back when I was younger, I spent hours singing Disney duets with my sister and recording them on cassette tapes. I studied voice technique and drama for several years, and at one point, I even formed part of Malta’s National Youth Theatre. However, in recent years I decided to focus entirely on pop music. Late last year, I released my first single called “Breathe”, and a couple of weeks ago, I released a Synthwave remix version of “Breathe”. the song.

When did you first discover your love for music?

Gilbert: From ever since I can remember, I was always quite music-driven. I was always a fan of music, in fact when I was younger I used to spend hours watching music animated movies and recording new releases on my cassette player. I used to carry it everywhere with me. However, the moment I realised I wanted to pursue music was the first time I watched “The Sound of Music” during a music lesson.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Gilbert: I would like to describe my style as soft pop. Some of my biggest influences are artists such as Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi, and Harry Styles. Their voice versatility is insane, and  I just love how they include falsetto in their songs. However, lately, I’ve been quite intrigued by Synthwave and Latin genres and am definitely interested in exploring them further.

You recently released a new remix of your debut single ‘Breathe’. How did the idea for this release come together?

Gilbert: It was such a fun and exciting process working on my ‘Breathe’, that I wanted to continue working on it and give it a whole new perspective. One of the first genres that popped into our minds were Synth & Retrowave. They’re gaining popularity quite fast, so we wanted to explore these genres. Furthermore, it also gave the song a whole new perspective.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Gilbert: Words can’t express how important ‘Breathe’ is to me. It’s the first song I released, which helped me transition from a cover singer to a singer-songwriter and I loved every step towards that journey. However, ‘Breathe’ is special to me,  as it was the first song that helped me understand what it really means to write meaningful & relatable lyrics. Breathe was not the first song I wrote,  I had written a few before it, but none of them had moved me as this one did.

If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Gilbert: I think we’ve all been in a situation where we feel trapped by the repeated hurtful actions caused by a loved one. We always try to make up excuses to justify their mistakes, which I guess is normal. However, the moment you realise that parting ways will be the right course of action for you can truly hurt. And that’s the situation ‘Breathe’ deals with.  It’s sad to let go of someone you love, especially when they’ve been a big part of your life. However, if the listeners can take anything from this song is that in such situations it’s okay to put yourself first and do what’s right for you.

Do you have any further releases currently planned that you are able to tell us about?

Gilbert: Yes I do 😊 I actually wrote something last year which I want to release later on this year and I’m very excited about it! However, I am currently writing a number of new songs, and aim to choose the best out of all of them.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Gilbert: When I’m not working on music, you’ll probably find me in the garden taking care of my plants. I have quite a green thumb and enjoy gardening, it helps me clear my thoughts.

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose & why?

Gilbert: Uuuu now this is a hard one as there are several singers that I would love to duet with. It would have to be a tie between Julie Andrews and Sam Smith. For those who may not know, Julie Andrews played the lead role in the Sound of Music, so to sing a duet with the person who inspired me to pursue music in the first place would be a dream come through. However, I adore Sam Smith’s music style and voice. In fact I do feel that the original songs I write are heavily influenced by him.

What is one item thing that you could not live without?

Gilbert: Probably my headphones. I used them all the time.

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

Gilbert: Now, this is a real hard one.  I have quite a few songs that I love and play depending on my mood, so I really can’t pick just one.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Thanks to everyone who took the opportunity to listen to my original songs. Your support means a lot!  I honestly can’t wait to share with you the new music I’ve been working on.
