Upcoming UK singer-songwriter Rosie Gault recently shared the the reimagined version of ‘My Imaginary World’ makes the perfect soundtrack for that bittersweet feeling of letting your first love go, knowing it will always hold a place in your heart.
This song was originally written by Rosie when she was eighteen years old, going through her first heartbreak and has now received a reinvention with a dreamy soundscape.
With lyrics that feel like diary entries, ‘My Imaginary World’ is a perfect example of the confessional feel to Rosie’s music and highlights the emotional core of her musical creativity.
Rosie has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding this latest single and you can find the full interview below.
Hey Rosie, thank you for talking with me today. You just released the new single “My Imaginary World”, which is a reimagined version of lyrics you wrote following your first heartbreak. What inspired you to share it with the world now?
Rosie: Thank you for having me back! This was a song that always stuck with me, after writing it when I was 18. Over time I felt like I could imagine it as a more dreamy, ethereal track and wanted to bring it back to life in a new way.
How did the process feel creating this version of the song now compared to when you first composed it?
Rosie: Usually when I’m making music I focus on the storytelling and the lyrics. This time, I only made some very minor lyrical changes, it was almost entirely about the atmosphere and the production. I also recorded extra harmony layers, which is something I’ve grown more confident with over my time recording music in the last few years. Sofy Bilaya, who did the production of this track, really helped to capture the dreamy feeling I was looking for.
How do you feel your music has evolved since you first wrote these lyrics?
Rosie: I remember this was the first song I ever sang in front of my Mum. I used to refuse to sing in front of my family at home, I was too nervous. The only time I’d done it before was to practise for my music school auditions, and even then I was in a different room, just with the door open! My confidence has grown a lot, I stopped expecting myself to be perfect and started looking for the right words to reach people.
Did you always know that you wanted to release this song one day?
Rosie: I think this song was always on my radar to be released. When I first wrote it, I’d never been in a recording studio and knew nothing about production or the process of getting music on streaming sites. There was a lot to learn but once I had the knowledge this was one of the first songs I had in mind. I feel extra happy to be able to share this reimagined version too!
What does it mean to you to finally share this song?
Rosie: I remember sharing some clips of this track with my audience on Instagram and receiving so many lovely messages, requesting I released the full song. It means so much to me to be able to share my music and give those who listen a track that resonates with them in some way.
If listeners could take a lesson from this song, what would you like it to be?
Rosie: I’d like this song to be a reminder that it’s okay to mourn the loss of a relationship, if your feelings were genuine there is no way around that. But I think this song can also be a reminder that, even though a part of your mind might miss that person, as time passes a new version of you will appear. When I wrote that song I thought I would miss my ex every day for the rest of my life, but now it’s more like a ship that passes through my head every now and then. I feel it but it passes.
Do you have any upcoming musical plans that you can currently share?
Rosie: I have been working on some new music this summer, specifically tracks I see my audience requesting on my social media. I’ve been sharing clips from my unreleased songs such as ‘Our Song’s on Your Playlist’, ‘Fake Magic’ and ‘Therapist Friend’ recently. I hope to share even more soon and I have also been working on my own skills as a producer, so I look forward to some new song releases which show that!
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with readers?
Rosie: You don’t have to commit to a mistake just because you spent a long time making it. That’s a lesson that has been very valuable to me recently. I’m a very passionate person and I give 100% to everything I try, but then when something doesn’t work out or doesn’t feel right, it feels like a big loss. It’s important to trust yourself and know that there is always something better coming your way, you can’t waste time if it has led you to a brighter path! Thank you for reading about my music, it means the world to me. I hope my songs can be a part of your journey, especially when emotions are big.
