Interview: Charlotte Young Talk’s About Her Latest Single “Whiplash”!

Rising Birmingham based country singer-songwriter Charlotte Young recently released the brand new single “Whiplash” & has taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release.

Hey Charlotte, thank you for agreeing to this interview. How did you first discover your passion for music?

Charlotte: Hey! Thanks so much for the opportunity. I feel like I discovered it a long time ago but didn’t necessarily realise until around 5 years back. I always sang, I played the guitar and wrote songs obsessively and had music as a best friend throughout my entire life. I was always afraid that nothing could ever come from it and then I realised one day that if I love something the way I love music, I should never give up.

Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?

Charlotte: I always wanted to but never thought it was possible, though it wouldn’t be stable or that anyone would enjoy what I do. I then realised that music was never going to leave me so I may as well ride the wave and hope for the best.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your work?

Charlotte: That’s pretty tricky but I’d probably say its quite punchy with a very personal flavour and that it will either make you want to sing from the top of your lungs or cry in your room.

You recently released the brand new single “Whiplash”, which sounds amazing. How did the idea to create this single come together?

Charlotte: So I was sitting down with the guys at Puzzle Maker Studios and we were deciding what songs to release into the world. I played a few to them and saved Whiplash until last because I didn’t really understand how I wanted it to sound, the guys loved it and helped build an arrangement and it became the single!.

What is the main inspiration behind the song?

Charlotte: So whiplash came about after a phone call with a friend who happened to be having some boy trouble. She was explaining that this guy just couldn’t make his mind up and he’d say one thing and do the other. She went “I feel like he’s giving me Whiplash” and boom, I felt the need to write about it! Their relationship was a bit of a whirlwind so that’s why its a bit dramatic.

What message would you like listeners to take away from the song?

Charlotte: I would like people to hear it and understand that if somebody is giving you the run around its not worth it, you must focus on yourself.

Do you have any upcoming singles planned, which you can tell us about?

Charlotte: So there aren’t any singles at the moment but there is an EP! It will be coming early May so please keep your eyes peeled for that.

What do you enjoying doing in your spare time?

Charlotte: I love to hang out with my cats, watch films, create music and I’m a secret video gamer!

What was the last movie you watched & did you enjoy it?

Charlotte: I recently watched all of the Marvel movies in order so Avengers Endgame was the last one I watched. I personally love it, think its a very satisfying ending to an awesome franchise and also very emotional!

Which movie soundtrack would you consider to be your all-time favourite?

Charlotte: Tricky but either Dumplin’ because of Dolly Parton ( our lord and saviour) or the soundtrack from Ten Things I Hate About You. Obsessed, never gets old.

What was the last TV show you binge-watched & did you enjoy it?

Charlotte: TIGER KING! it is the most wild thing I have witnessed in a very long time and its so compelling. If you’re into true crime its a MUST.

If you could appear on any TV show, which would it be & why?

Charlotte: Hundred percent it has to be Greys Anatomy. Its use of music is the best thing ever and its had so many seasons and still isn’t boring. I’d love either a patient role or to have my music used in a really sad episode.

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career in music?

Charlotte: Just go for it, if it makes you happy you should do it. Always jump at the chance to follow your dreams.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Charlotte: I would say Hello! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you’ve enjoyed the interview and the single. Please stay safe and wash your hands 🙂
