Czech Republic raised & London based upcoming musical sensation Aiko, is set to release the brand new single “Bad Influence” on January 28th 2020 & has taken the time to talk to us about her upcoming release.
- Hey Aiko, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Aiko: “Hi, thank you for having me! I’m Aiko, I was born in Russia, raised in Czech republic and now I’m based in London, although I travel for my music a lot, so you can find me all over the place! In my music, I love to explore topics such as solitude, love and understanding of self, although I’m constantly evolving and changing, so there are always new things coming.“
2. When did you first discover your love for performing?
Aiko: “I always loved attention, even as a kid I used to make concerts for my parents in the living room (I didn’t forget to sell tickets beforehand, I was a smart kid). I love being eccentric and to make a whole “show” out of the performance. But I remember the first time I got on stage, I really wasn’t enjoying it, it was actually a nightmare! I definitely grew into my stage persona. Now I really love it though, I enjoy every second of being on stage and I always remind myself, that people came to experience something new and they want to see something extraordinary, something, that they can’t feel in their daily lives and I try to deliver exactly that.”
3. You are set to release your brand new single “Bad Influence” on January 28th. Can you tell us more about what we can expect from your upcoming release?
Aiko: “Sure! On the 28th of January “Bad Influence” will be premiered on the Red Bull’s website and a day later you’ll be able to find it on YouTube and everywhere else. I’m really excited to release this song together with a music video, as it has been nearly 7 months since we’ve started working on it and I haven’t released any new music in a long time. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!”
4. What does the song personally mean to you?
Aiko: “Bad influence” is a song that celebrates youth and reminds us of the importance of being present in the moment, as we will all grow and change and one day it will be a sweet memory to us, that “I remember when…” story, so we should make it worthwhile. I think this song will bring out the bad kid in you, that you always wanted to be but never embraced.
5. What message would you like listeners to take away from this latest release?
Aiko: “Be present, be you and truly enjoy what you have!”
6. How have family & friends reacted to the single?
Aiko: “I’m a very fortunate person to have really supportive friends and family, so when I’ve shown this song to people, everyone seemed to like it and say it’s really catchy!”
“I remember when this song wasn’t even finished yet and I sent it to my friend, who was out on a road trip at that time. He later sent me videos of how he blasted the song on full volume the entire time and he now says that it’s “the song of their road trip” and that was so sweet to me! I love when people have memories attached to certain songs, so it’s really lovely to hear that someone has this connection to my song.“
7. Are there any more musical releases coming up that you can tell us about?
Aiko: “Sure! Bad influence is the first song of my upcoming EP, that I’m releasing one by one as singles, that in the end create one whole album. You can look forwards to the song “Down”, that will be released in March, together with a music video and many other songs, that will come every month!”
8. This is where I like to get to know more from the artist behind the music. What do you like to get up to in your spare time? Any hobbies?
Aiko: “I actually live and breathe music! I’m constantly creating, writing new music or lyrics, performing (which also means I’m often on the road), coming up with new ideas for videos or shooting. As I also manage myself, I book all of my shows and do all of my social media platforms myself, it takes a lot of time as well. If I’m not doing music, I do pole dancing and contemporary dance and sometimes enjoy a good audiobook.”
9. What is one song you always keep on your playlist & why?
Aiko: “This hard one! For the past year it’s been “Heavy, California” from Jungle for me, as this song has something special, it’ll put you in a great mood right away.”
10. What was the last TV series you binge-watched & did you enjoy it?
Aiko: “I have to confess, that I’ve never in my life binge-watched series and have only seen about 3 or 4 TV series in my life! But the ones I’ve seen and loved are Stranger Things or Sex Education.”
11. Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolutions?
Aiko: “If you want to do something, pursue something you’re passionate about, do it. Think about what could happen in the worst case scenario and if it doesn’t involve you dying, go for it. You’ll laugh about it and that you were scared of it in a year.
Oh and listen to “Bad Influence”, check out my socials, come to my live gigs and I hope you’ll enjoy what I create as much as I enjoy creating it!”
