Danish singer-songwriter steph marks a reintroduction with the brutally honest tale of a bittersweet Halloween tradition with the brand new single “October 31st”!
Stephanie Meincke has already made her mark with last year’s ’Never Not Thinking’ EP, which featured the internationally acclaimed lead single ’Full-Time Driver’. But realizing that she had never introduced herself by her full name -“Everyone just calls me steph anyway”- she’s back to introduce herself once again.
This latest single follows the protagonist through her yearly ritual of falling back to her toxic ex. However, during this encounter she realises that it’s hopeless, It’ highlights ‘s an example of what we sometimes do as humans to convince ourselves of things “in the name of love”.
“October 31st’ is about a person who has her very own self-destructive Halloween tradition: every year on October 31, she lets herself fall back into the arms of her toxic ex. The streets are filled with gravestones, skeletons and ghosts, so why not spend just one more night with the person who was otherwise dead to you? Along the way, the protagonist realizes, of course, that this ritual of relapse is completely hopeless.” explains steph “But she is also an example of how we can all, ‘in the name of love’, convince ourselves of things that are anything but healthy for us.”
Blending dark humour and melancholy with steph’s remarkably powerful voice, the indie-pop song captures the messy and sometimes ridiculous things we do in the name of love.
