Interview: Shannon Hynes Discusses The Upcoming Release Of Her Single “HIDE”!

Emerging Welsh singer-songwriter Shannon Hynes draws influence from the Country, Americana and Folk genres to create a truly unparalleled & captivating series of musical pieces that have won the hearts of music lovers everywhere.

Following on from the recent success of her latest single, “Standing Me Up”, Shannon is about to release the brand new song “HIDE” on May 21st & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about this forthcoming track. Find out what she had to say below.

Hey Shannon, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Shannon: Hi Jess, thank you so much for having me. Yes, I’m a Welsh music artist based in London. I’ve been in London for 7 years pursuing music, I love it!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Shannon: I think music really started to overtake everything when I was about 16. That’s when I discovered country music, due to that discovery I started writing songs and that changed everything for me.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music world?

Shannon: No, actually, my original plan was to go to university to study journalism, I was half way through my A Levels when I decided I wanted to take the jump and pursue music. I then completed a foundation course and degree in music.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Shannon: It’s hard to describe my musical style as it’s always changing. Essentially I am a country artist, my last single ‘Standing Me Up’ was very country, teetering on western you could say, very organic with that live band feel.  Whereas, my new single ‘Hide’ is a bit more commercial, with a clean production, playing with the pop genre. That’s one of my favourite things about being an artist, there aren’t any barriers, you can be as experimental as you like. Being in the studio is one of my favourite places to be, my producer’s musicality is never ending and he helps to take my music to so many beautiful places.

You are due to release the brand new single “HIDE” on May 21st, which sounds incredible by the way. How did the idea for this song come together?

Shannon: Aww, thank you, I’m really glad you like it. Like a lot of my music, it came from one of my experiences. A time when I was made to feel inadequate and small. It took me a long while to write the song after this experience, it was only when I felt the power and strength that the song came to life.

Did you always plan to release “HIDE” as a single?

Shannon: I think so, yes. I always play the process of illumination with my songs, so I always have an idea of what I’ll take into the studio and release, but you never know what you’re going to write next, sometimes songs I really love, get knocked off by something better.

How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your previous releases?

Shannon: Honestly, it’s not much different at all. Haha! If anything, ‘Hide’ was slightly simpler than my previous tracks. The instrumentation is a bit more sparse, we spent a lot of time on the harmonies for this track, the song is very much pushed by the harmonies.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Shannon: I really do love this song, it makes me feel so incredibly powerful on stage. I’m so glad the recorded version exudes that same feeling. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?

hannon: That no-one can knock you down and these people who are cruel for no reason have issues with themselves. Keep strong and don’t let it get to you.

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?

Shannon: Ohhh, lots of things. Spending time with friends and family first and foremost. I love reading, watching movies, over lockdown I’ve really really loved going for long walks, I’ve really come to appreciate the outdoors more than I ever have, it takes me back to my childhood and the endless possibility of adventure.

If you could perform a duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?

Shannon: Oh my goodness, you can’t ask me that!!!! Haha! Soooo many people. My favourite artist of all time is Ashley Monroe, so her for sure! But, Dolly would be amazing, just imagine how much fun that’d be. I’m OBSESSED with Finneas at the moment, so him also.

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

Shannon: Lauren Alaina – Ladies in the 90’s. Love LOVE that song! It always cheers me up if I need a pick me up.

What three words would best describe you?

Shannon: Hmmm… loyal, emotional and silly. You’d probably have to ask my friends, they might say different, hahaha!

If you could possess one superpower, what would you choose & why?

Shannon: I think I’d be invisible, so then I could be a fly on the wall for my favourite bands rehearsals and things. That’d be cool!

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Shannon: My gosh, I think I need that advice myself, I’m still trying to figure it out. All I can say is, practice, write, network and keep at it with your social media, that is so important for our industry now.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Shannon: Just thank you to anyone who has supported me, listened to my music, watched a video, liked, shared, commented on my socials, all of this goes incredibly far for independent artists. It means so much!  Oh and preserve my new single ‘HIDE’ out 21st May! Haha!
