Emerging Australian country singer-songwriter Krystal Cameron has swiftly attracted the attention of music lovers & critics alike through her freshly vibrant musical style & heavenly vocal talent.
Following on from the recent success of her debut single “Bad Taste”, Krystal now looks set to capture the hearts of listeners once again with the release of the brand new song “Wanted The Whiskey”.
Krystal has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest single, along with getting to know more from the artist herself. Find out what she had to say below.
Hey Krystal, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Krystal: Thanks for having me! My name is Krystal & I’m a pop-country singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia 🙂
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Krystal: Music is probably my earliest memory – there are a lot of home videos of me as a toddler playing songs on toy instruments, and from there I just upskilled & upgraded!
Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?
Krystal: It’s always something I wanted deep down, but I let a lot of things stand in my way – especially my own self doubt. Glad to have finallyyyyyy pushed through!!
How would you describe your musical style with someone unfamiliar with your music?
Krystal: Full band, pop country is the sound style I love, but my music is a little sassy & super honest!
You recently released the new single “Wanted The Whiskey”. How did the idea for this song come together?
Krystal: I wrote this song after over a year of spending time with a boy who would take me out on “fake dates” – open the car door, hold my hand, buying drinks & giving mixed signals … after a while of it going nowhere, I realised I wished I was only there to have the drinks – not for him!!
Did you always plan to release “Wanted The Whiskey” as a single?
Krystal: It was definitely a standout favourite from the moment I finished it, but at the time I wrote it I didn’t know if I’d embark on a solo project – so I’m glad it’s had it’s time to shine!
What does this song personally mean to you?
Krystal: This song is a super honest recount of the exact situation & feelings I had in the time period of spending time with that person, so it’s pretty vulnerable for me to share those emotions with the world publicly! However putting the song out was a big part of healing from the experience, so it’s pretty special.
If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?
Krystal: From sharing it on platforms like tiktok I’ve heard so many stories of people in similar situations, and I guess writing that song at the time I felt like it’d never get easier; but it does! So give it time !!
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Krystal: Outside of music, I’ve been super into my fitness journey again now that gyms have reopened post-quarantine (they were shut for 8 months in Melbourne where I live!) & I also love to vlog my life online – so editing lil videos is another hobby of mine!
If you could perform a duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?
Krystal: Definitely Nick Thomas from The Spill Canvas – that band shaped my life in so many ways & it’d be very full circle for me.
What three words best describe you?
Krystal: Mushy, sassy & blind (to red flags … HAHAHA).
What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?
Krystal: Bitches by Mitchell Tenpenny – everybody needs a pump up anthem!!
If you could possess any superpower, what would you choose & why?
Krystal: I’d love to know what people are thinking instead of guessing & making my own scenarios instead – they often get me in trouble!!
What is one item you could not live without?
Krystal: I feel like the most obvious answer is ‘my phone’ because it connects us to so many people & platforms!
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Krystal: I’d love for anyone to check out my new single Wanted the Whiskey & let me know their thoughts! I love hearing people’s stories relating back to music in general, so it’s super special hearing it about mine.
