Upcoming Manchester’s indie-rock four-piece The Falls share their brand new single “Loaded Gun”!
Marking their third release for the upcoming second studio EP ‘Would You Do It All Over Again’, which arrives on September 18th 2026 via Revo Pro. “Loaded Gun” trades the escapism of the EP’s previous releases for something darker and more urgent, driven by crashing guitars, relentless momentum and lyrics centred on guilt, pressure and the inescapable consequences of choices and mistakes you can’t outrun.
The roots of “Loaded Gun” trace back to a scene from Martin Scorsese’s crime masterpiece ‘The Departed’. In the scene, mob boss Frank Costello played by Jack Nicholson at his most menacing, confronts a young Colin Sullivan about the choices that await him. The loaded gun of the title is not a weapon, but a metaphor; No matter which path you take, the outcome is already written and the bullet is already in the chamber. Harrison took this idea and turned it inward, building a song about confronting your mistakes and the feeling that, no matter how far you run, your mistakes will eventually catch up with you.
The Falls have kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding their latest single and their forthcoming EP. You can find the full interview below.
Hey The Falls, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourselves to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?
We’re a four-piece indie rock band who push the boundaries of what indie rock is by integrating different elements of multiple genres such as punk and grunge. Our sound comes from each of us as we all have different inspirations musically. Me (Tom) and Ren, both enjoy metal and grunge, whereas Joel loves blues and Britpop.
Ren, Harrison and I are all from Worsley and we started the band around three years ago after we left the same high school. We recently added a new member to the band – our lead guitarist Joel, one of the best additions we’ve made yet.
How did the idea to form The Falls come together?
To put it simply, Ren, Harrison and I were in the same high school and music class. After leaving school, Harrison called me one day and asked if I wanted to be in a band. Originally we were a five piece act, but one of the members dropped out after the first few practices and we also changed bassist twice up until Ren joined.
What inspired the name The Falls?
Originally we were called Tidal 5 and we were a five piece band. After one of the members left we needed a new name so I suggested names such as The Blitz but Harrison messaged our chat one day and came up with the name “The Falls”. This name is inspired by one of Harrison’s favourites songs by The Inspiral Carpets “She Comes in the Fall”.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Our current music style I’d almost describe as indie punk, as a lot of our songs are very fast paced, high octane songs. However, we do have some that are slower and show our indie side, such as one of songs on our yet to be released EP “City Lights”.
On July 3rd, you released the new single “Loaded Gun”, how did the idea for this song come together?
The idea for this song came together in the first year of us being together, when Harrison came to practice one day and played us a rhythm section he’d been working on and we built everything around it from there. But the actual title of the song ‘Loaded Gun’ came from a line out of the film The Departed by Martin Scorcese. The lyrics are about the transition between a teenager and an adult as no one realises how sudden the switch is. You suddenly find that you have a lot of responsibility dumped on you and sometimes you don’t know what to do. This is reflected in our chorus lyrics “Staring down the barrel of a loaded gun, is it loaded son, do you know what you’re doing” as the transition can be related to the speed of a loaded gun.
What does the song mean to you, and what message would you like listeners to take from it?
The song is supposed to convey the helplessness of transitioning between a teenager and an adult and just how sudden it is to have these responsibilities thrown at you. But the main point is that it’s from a teenager’s perspective “staring down the barrel of a loaded gun” shows that the gun hasn’t fired yet, adulthood isn’t here yet, so enjoy what you have before you have to learn to deal with these responsibilities.
This song marks the third release from the forthcoming second studio EP ‘Would You Do It All Over Again’, which arrives on September 18th 2026, via Revo Pro. What are some of the things that listeners can anticipate from the upcoming EP?
Listeners can expect to find a story within our EP, one that many adults and teens can relate to as it shows how quick it all goes by, there are fast paced and enjoyable songs, then it slows and shows the slow realisation that you’re having fun but you’re nervous for the future. Finally, it becomes fast but dark and gritty, showing how quick it feels, as if everything has gone and the emotion of worry as you approach that point in life. We wanted something that listeners can relate to, showing them they’re not alone and at the end of the day, music is also here to help people process what is going on in their lives.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
We would just like to say, thank you for the interview and thank you to anyone who listens to us or supports us. Try to come and see us play and we would love to meet as many people as possible. Support your local bands, enjoy as much music as possible!
