RELEASE: Freyja Elsy Explores An Alternate Reality In “Another Life”!

Upcoming Cardiff-based singer-songwriter Freyja Elsy explores what could have been with her latest single “Another Life”!

Built around the idea of what might have been, “Another Life” explores the imagined versions of ourselves that exist alongside the choices we have made. The track reflects the strange duality of looking back at paths not taken while knowing that the life we have built is the right one, capturing the distance between who we were, who we are, and who we might have become.

Marking the third single from the forthcoming EP ‘to stop the world turning’. This latest single reflects on the question of what might have been, tracing the impact of choices, chance and time on the shape of both a present and a potential life. As Freyja explains: “It was a revelatory moment – a sudden burst of sunshine through the clouds, a light breeze in the middle of a scorching heatwave. At the same time came an existential drop in the stomach.. What might have happened if I hadn’t forged that path for myself?”

The second verse introduces the Welsh language into Elsy’s writing for the first time. Having learned Cymraeg over the last couple of years, she wanted to gently explore the language while including a subtle reference to Welsh folklore: “Mae’r hydref yn cyrraedd / A mae Lleu yn gadael, eto” (“Autumn is arriving, and Lleu is leaving again”). Lleu is thought by some etymologists to be the Welsh equivalent of the Irish Celtic figure Lugh, revisiting the idea of life changing with the seasons, a motif first explored on previous single ‘Golden Hour‘.

While rooted in Elsy’s own memories and reflections, ‘Another Life’ also speaks to the universal question of paths not taken and alternate versions of the self that exist only in imagination. Across the three singles released so far – ‘In My Veins’, ‘Control’ and ‘Another Life’ – Elsy begins to map the emotional terrain of to stop the world turning, moving from external memory, through internal fracture, to reflective distance, each shaped by her cinematic, textured approach to composition and production.
