Highly acclaimed UK country-pop singer-songwriter Louise Parker returns with “You Were Right”, a tongue-in-cheek take on a breakup excuse that makes a lot more sense in hindsight.
Speaking about the release, Louise shared “I wrote ‘You Were Right’ about that moment when you realise they didn’t actually lie, they just didn’t tell the full truth. At the time it sounds reasonable, but looking back it’s a lot simpler than that. It’s that slightly bitter, slightly amused realisation that… they were right, just not in the way they meant.”
Built around the line “you said we wanted different things”, the song flips a familiar excuse on its head. What first sounds like emotional maturity reveals itself, in hindsight, to be something far simpler: “I wanted you, you wanted her.”
Carried by wry, observational lyricism and set against confident, guitar-led production, this latest single balances dry humour with a subtle edge, landing somewhere between quiet self-awareness and a well-timed eye roll.
