INTERVIEW: Rosie Gault Discusses Her Latest Single “Your Ghost”!

Upcoming UK singer-songwriter Rosie Gault shares her latest single “Your Ghost”, which explores the pain of knowing that someone you loved is still out there, but only having a vague idea of their life.

During a visit to her hometown, Rosie was inspired to write this track when the memories of a
past relationship felt inescapable.

This latest track brings a nice contrast to Rosie’s recent pop-folk EP and reminds us of her musical roots. With a darker feel to the synths and a more complex drum pattern, it showcases Rosie’s variety of charismatic musical individuality.

Rosie has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of her latest single & you can find the full interview below.

Hey Rosie, thank you for your time today. You have just released the brand new single “Your Ghost”. How did the idea for this song come together?

Rosie: Thank you for having me! Your Ghost was a late-night writing session in my hometown room. I had been thinking a lot about how when you miss somebody for a long time, you start to see things that remind you of them and imagine their life. It feels like the memory is following you, so Your Ghost was born!

The song centres around the pain of knowing that someone you loved is still out there, but only having a vague idea of their life. What drew you to write a song centred around this?

Rosie: It was a theme I started to notice across conversations with friends, books and films I love, and in my own nostalgia. I found it hard to put into words, but felt it was something many people feel. Those are the ideas I love to turn into music, so everyone has an outlet for their emotions. The writing process also allows me to let all my thoughts out.

How did you find the creative process behind this song compared to your earlier releases?

Rosie: It started with just piano and some posts on my social media. After sharing it at a show in London a year ago, I had some messages and comments asking for a full release! The producer of the song Evan Anderson also said he’d like to work on it at the very same show. We both agreed the song should sound like a sunset drive, and I think he did a perfect job! I wrote and recorded the vocal harmonies myself, which I loved.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Rosie: To me, this song has been a return to my more upbeat pop influence, such as Taylor Swift’s 1989 and Midnights albums. I love being able to express myself in music and to write something that describes a very specific feeling. This song also reminds me of the positivity and support I have been able to find for my music, and how that enthusiasm inspires me to bring my early work to life.

If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Rosie: I hope listeners can enjoy the more upbeat nature of this song, and have it as a part of their soundtrack to decorate their time. I would love the lyrics to help someone know that there’s no time limit on how long you can miss someone or wonder about them. It’s okay to let your thoughts be what they are, real love always lingers.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Rosie: Thank you for reading about my music! Recently, I’ve been on a journey to find more joy in every day life. I realised that bringing other people happiness makes me the happiest I can be, so I hope my music or my words can bring some amount of sparkle to your life. I also realised recently that after spending a long time aiming to ‘find myself’, I was there all along and the fun part is getting to evolve. I hope you remember to enjoy the journey too!
