Hey Aieysha, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers unfamiliar with your music?

Aieysha: Hey, I’m Aieysha Haws, an independent rapper/singer-songwriter. I was born in Florida, and raised in Toronto. I mix RNB, Hip-Hop Soul, & more as a rapper/singer-songwriter. I’m also a visual artist & DIY-er. Although moody & serious at times, I’m fun-loving, sensitive & amiable at heart; I’m the Queen of Hearts. [Laughs]

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Aieysha: When I was 6 or 7, I heard Patti Labelle & Tina Turner through my stereo. I was mesmerized and captivated. There’s something compelling about how I felt while listening to their songs and it inspired me to want to do what they do. I understood that the magic was in the voice, so I started singing along to their songs as a means of teaching myself how to sing; I lost my CD, and my cassette spooled out shortly after, so I hid trying to fix it myself. [Laughs] The damage was irreversible because I didn’t know what I was doing, but I was determined, so I was tasked with singing what I learned by listening. My passion for music was inspired by those women that came before me. They continue to be great influences professionally and personally.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Aieysha: I’ve shown a natural talent as an artist & writer since I was a kid. I’m less shy, and more reserved, which is better described as me being conflicted about the way I take up space, and how I’m perceived, & heard, which is why I emphasize meaning in everything, especially alignment with people, places & things. Pure curiosity was just the start of what motivated me to go further. Initially, I had no idea how far I’d go, if even in the public eye.

Music brought me a lot of joy & pleasure, but I tried to shut the door on it while focusing on studying at university, but an accident changed my outlook on life entirely. As I went through the healing process, I felt helpless & broken, but I decided to embrace a new version of myself, physically, mentally, & emotionally to get better.

I’ve gone through a lot, but my journey continues with love & gratitude for sharing my own music.

How would you currently describe your musical style?

Aieysha: Me, my personality as is, I am full of life, witty, vibrant, soulful, unpredictable & powerful. It’s a poetic expression of my ability to learn from others, as well as, my own experiences & lessons learned.

You recently released the epic new single “Infinity 4 U”. How did the idea for this song come together?

Aieysha: INFINITY 4 U is a grand adventure that I penned on the go. The idea that unconditional love is a reality that transcends all boundaries; I would do anything for it. Exploring nature & simultaneously engaging the senses.

What are some of the main influences behind the song?

Aieysha: Honest communication, respect, & childlike wonder of creations. The beauty of nature can simplify complex feelings with its magic. When I was a kid, my mom encouraged me to get in touch with my emotions, to unpack, in order to master myself, be myself, to confront, to play, as I go within, within nature; the park & forest are significant places that I still go to today for self-reflection when I feel misunderstood or in need of growth. I’m always learning.

Did you always plan to release “Infinity 4 U” as a single?

Aieysha: It was just a matter of knowing the song would be special because I could imagine someone listening & being moved.

If listeners could take something from this song, what would you like it to be?

Aieysha: It’s a compelling statement made with the hope that anyone struggling right now, will listen & be encouraged to reconnect with nature & grow. Nature is an important & intimate part of life that brings harmony to life.

Do you have any upcoming releases or performances planned that you can currently share with us?

Aieysha: I’m traveling to Estonia to perform live at Tallinn Music Week of May 10-14. Then I’m back in Toronto at Canadian Music Week in June. Look out for updates, more music, & shows. If you’re reading this I invite you to all my future shows! If you can’t make it, stream, download, buy &/or share my music. Don’t stop listening & I’ll see you soon. Thank you!

What advice would you offer to someone who’s looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Aieysha: Have faith in your abilities. From hardship to happiness, be grateful & stay true to yourself.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Aieysha: Ever-changing lines & colo(u)rs add pure admiration to life. To be fierce & fabulous, kill ‘em with kindness.
