Los Angeles-based cinematic-pop musician Bri Oglu continues to move the hearts of listeners across the globe through a host of highly praised compositions that highlight this artist’s heartfelt musical versatility.
Not long ago, Bri released the six-track “Somewhere Else” EP, which is full of original songs & covers that come together to allow listeners to escape & find an internal place of peace.
The EP contains the acclaimed singles “Slowly” & “Enough,” along with another original and covers from Aerosmith, Soundgarden, & Christina Aguilera.
Bri has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the EP. You can check out the full interview below.
Hey Bri, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling readers a little bit about yourself? How would you currently describe your musical style?
Bri: Hey! Thanks for having me. Yes, of course: I’m a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, but I moved around a bunch growing up. I have roots in central & southern Illinois and Orange County, California. I grew up listening to a wide range of music including country, pop, alternative, classic rock, jazz and musical theatre. I would describe my style as soulful and cinematic. I love writing music that sounds like it should be in a film and moves the listener.
On December 1st, you unveiled the brand-new EP “Somewhere Else.” How did the idea for this EP come together?
Bri: I knew I wanted to do a mix of original music and curated covers. I realized that all of the originals were written from a place of anxiety and not being present. The covers I chose all have a dream-like, other-worldly quality to them. I felt like the title Somewhere Else captured a universal element in each of the songs.
The tracklist for this EP features a mix of originals & covers. How did the idea of combining the two come together?
Bri: Being candid, I’m a major perfectionist and I didn’t feel like any of my other original work was ready to be released. I also did a ton of cover gigs when I first came to LA and was able to organically curate a sound and vibe that allowed me to make the songs my own.
What does this EP personally mean to you?
Bri: This EP is me fighting for a change in my life. I’m putting music out and taking a chance on myself so that I can get to the next level in my career and grow as an artist. 🙂
If listeners could take anything away from this EP, what would you like it to be?
Bri: I hope it inspires them to live honestly and to take risks. The written portion of this EP came from a really genuine space.
Putting your art out for everyone to see is a risk and an act of self-love and vulnerability. I hope my doing it shows that anyone can do the same and should.
Were there any songs that did not make the final track list that we could see released at a later date?
Bri: Maybe. 😉
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Bri: Yes! Shut out the noise, stay in your own lane and keep going. xx
