INTERVIEW: Lucy & La Mer Discusses The Brand New Release Of “Don’t It Feel Good”!

Charismatically artistic Lucy & La Mer’s recently released the shimmery & sun-drenched infectious pop anthem “Don’t It Feel Good”, which embodies the artist’s message of self-acceptance & positivity.

Lucy LaForge, the artist behind the name “Lucy & La Mer”, is known for her vibrantly upbeat & hopeful songs, as well as for her mental health advocacy within the LGBTQ community.

Lucy has very kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the emotional & artistic journey behind this latest single release. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Lucy & La Mer, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Lucy: Happy to be here! I’m a songwriter based in Los Angeles. I love to travel and I’m a sucker for sunflowers.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Lucy: I was always obsessed with music growing up. It wasn’t until high school that I actually picked up a guitar and tried to cover some of my favourite bands. I was too shy to sing in front of anyone at that point, but I felt so calm and relieved anytime I played music. I knew it was going to be a big part of my life.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Lucy: The majority of my songs are upbeat, cheerful alternative pop tunes with fun guitar riffs and call-and-response choruses.

You are about to release the brand new single “Don’t It Feel Good” on June 3rd. How did the inspiration for this song come together?

Lucy: After spending most of the last two years at home, I really started to feel my insecurities and self-doubts come back when I started to socialize again. This song is all about letting go and embracing the unknown. I want listeners to feel inspired to step out of their comfort zone and experience new things.

Did you always plan on releasing “Don’t It Feel Good” as a single?

Lucy: This song almost didn’t get released, actually. We created it for fun. But after listening to it more, it feels like a perfect song to release for Summer.

How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your earlier releases?

Lucy: Normally, I’m going through something emotionally difficult when I write a song. This song wasn’t tied to any relationship or person. It was purely a feel-good song to make something upbeat in hope of cheering other people up and inspiring them to come out of their shell more.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Lucy: For me, this song reminds me that feeling good is a priority. I’ve been taking the time to learn more about myself and how I can manage my mental health better. I realize that it’s a lot of work, and it’s about consistently showing up for myself and asking, “How can I allow myself more joy today?” A big part of that is knowing what people, situations, jobs, places, etc. feel good and which ones simply don’t.

If listeners could take any message away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Lucy: I hope listeners can whistle along to the chorus and feel a little lighter after they hear this song.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Lucy: You are the only thing standing in your way – go get ‘em!
