INTERVIEW: Olivia Wik Discusses Her Latest Single “Let’s Dance”!

With over 250 original songs & over 100 collaborations with songwriters & artists across the globe already to her name, Internationally-recognized Canadian singer-songwriter Olivia Wik has unveiled her first release of 2022 in the form of the electric ear-catching anthem “Let’s Dance”.

Written by Wik & produced by ‘Towers’ (Brad Simons and Brandon Unis), “Let’s Dance” taps into the Edmonton-based artist’s established foundation as a singer-songwriter but adds a timeless retro-pop production as a fresh twist.

Olivia has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding her latest musical release & you can check out the full interview below.

Hey Olivia, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Olivia: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me. I’m a singer/songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta. I’ve been writing songs for almost 10 years and have had a number of songs cut by artists as well as many placements in TV shows and movies. I’ve spent the last few years as a songwriter but still love to release my own work as well.

Speaking of which, my latest single, “Let’s Dance”, is out now!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Olivia: I have always sung. I have old home videos of me making up songs about flowers and sheep. When I got a little older, I started taking singing lessons, took part in musical theatre, and eventually learned to play the guitar.

Music has always been a part of my life and I’m happy that it’s led me to where I am now.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Olivia: Growing up, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. But once I hit 15, I started to think that a career in music might be something I wanted to consider. Once I thought that might be something I’d want to do, I began entering myself into competitions and networking at different events and conferences.

I’m really proud of my younger self for hustling so hard and working to reach a goal.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Olivia: I would say that my style is eclectic. I’ve never really stuck to one genre and I want to keep experimenting with my music. Although, the common thread throughout my music is that I write all my songs.

You recently released the brand new single “Let’s Dance”, which sounds amazing by the way. How did the idea for this song come together?

Olivia: Thank you so much! I’m so happy that you like it. It’s a bit of a strange story. “Let’s Dance” was a song that seemed to come to me all at once. It was a rare moment of what seemed like intense creativity. The chorus came to me all at once, and then when I had that written down, the verses came to me so easily. It only took about 30 minutes to write it all.

It sounds weird to say that it seemed to hit me all at once, but it’s true.

Did you always plan to release “Let’s Dance” as a single?

Olivia: Yes, when I wrote it, I knew that it was one of those songs that can stand on its own.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Olivia: To me, it’s a reminder to have fun. Life doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, so let loose, have fun, and dance like no one is watching.

If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Olivia: This song isn’t a song that begs to be taken seriously, so people should feel like they can let their hair down and have fun. “Let’s Dance” is a song all about letting go a little bit and just enjoying yourself.

What are some of your favourite things outside of music?

Olivia: I’m a simple gal. I love my cat, detective shows, and a really good cup of coffee.

If you could duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose?

Olivia: Kim Petras. She’s just so cool, very talented, and incredibly funny.

What advice would you offer to someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Olivia: Get a good lawyer. It will benefit you in the long run.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Olivia: Don’t take life too seriously. Don’t be afraid to have fun and enjoy yourself. You deserve it!
