Interview: Sabine Discusses The Release Of The New Single “Walk Alone” Alongside Ci Majr!

UK based singer-songwriter Sabine has teamed up alongside Atlanta based artist Ci Majr on the emotive new single “Walk Alone”.

Having met at a songwriting retreat in Nashville at the end of 2019, these two gifted artists have come together for the joint venture, ‘Walk Alone;’recorded, mixed and mastered entirely remotely and given a polished production by producer/singer-songwriter and fellow retreat alumni, Ben Becker.

Sabine has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the creation & release of this emotionally moving single. You can check out what she said below.

Hey Sabine, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Sabine: I’m a singer-songwriter based in Shropshire and I mainly write Pop songs with a flavour of different genres mixed in! I have a long list of female artists that I admire and who influence my writing, Joan Armatrading is right at the top of that list, she makes me always want to strive to write and sing to my very best ability. I love cooking, walking my dogs and listening to the endless playlists that I keep creating!

You are about to release the new single “Walk Alone”, alongside Atlanta based artist, Ci Majr, on June 11th. How did the idea for this single come together?

Sabine: I started writing this song back in 2019 and the melody came first; it was darker than my other tracks and although it’s slow in tempo, I wanted it to feel strong and powerful.  The lyrics came out of the realisation that it can be better to be alone, than with the wrong person.

Did you always plan to release “Walk Alone” as a single?

Sabine: I played around with the idea of doing a collaboration EP, but with lockdown it’s just been too tricky. Then when the track started coming together, I knew it would work better as a stand alone single, because the sound is different to my usual pop melodies and might not have fitted into an EP format.

How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your previous releases?

Sabine: Honestly it was so nice to be working with Ci, it felt great to have somebody backing your idea straight from the start. The initial process of writing was the same, in that I sat down at the piano and jotted out some chords to go with the vocal melody, then worked on the lyrics. Then I sent it to Ci, she worked her magic on it with some great initial production We recorded our vocals remotely and sent it over to our mutual friend and fellow singer-songwriter Ben Becker, who is also a producer to bring it all together and complete the mix. I learnt a lot about recording in the process and I really loved making the track, it was a great experience.

How did the idea to release this collab alongside Ci Majr come together?

Sabine: As soon as I had a rough draft of the track, just my vocals and piano chords, I instantly thought of Ci to work on it, it just seemed to fit with her production style and genre. When she sent me a voice note of her playing around with what I’d sent her, I knew I wanted her voice on the song; she has such a unique tone and real depth to her voice, which I knew would compliment my vocals and enhance the track, it took the track to a whole new level.

What does this song personally mean to you & Ci Majr?

Sabine: It felt very empowering I think, for both of us to say things in a song that we couldn’t say out loud. We’ve both been in negative relationships in the past and to be able to share those experiences and come together to express our feelings was both cathartic and healing.

If listeners could take anything away from this single, what would you like it to be?

Sabine: To trust yourself and not to ignore or make excuses for things that you know deep down aren’t right. That being alone is far better and healthier, than staying in a bad relationship.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Sabine: Thank you so much for taking the time to read this article, I hope you enjoy the new single and stay safe and well.
