Now, Bailey has teamed up alongside Grammy-nominated producer Khris Riddick to create the captivating new single “Something In The Water” that calls out all the cheaters who don’t proceed on focusing on the hurt & repercussions caused by their actions.
Bailey has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding her latest musical release. Check out what she had to say below.
Hey Bailey, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Bailey: My name is Bailey Coats and I am a pop artist from Birmingham, AL. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and it is something that I have known, and believed to be my purpose since a very young age. Through many ups, downs, highs, lows, and inbetweens, this journey to accomplish my dream and goal has been eventful to say the least. While this journey has been interesting, every moment and opportunity leads to a new discovery about one’s self. Right now, I am at a point where I am creating music that resonates with myself and others. And right now, I am enjoying the creative process and experience more than I could have ever imagined.
You are about to release the brand new single “Something in the water”. How did the idea for this song come together?
Bailey: After befriending a social media star, one I believed potentially didn’t exist or that I would never encounter, the last person I expected to run into while having lunch at the Los Angeles hot spot, The Grove, was this person. The day before I had seen him posting pictures of him and his fiancé, but that was definitely not the woman who was holding his hand and cuddling next to him that day.
Later that afternoon, I was going into my first ever session with The Rascals producer, Khris Riddick-Tynes (Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Jessie Reyez, etc.). Despite my nerves already escalating in anticipation of this session, my gut was wrecked as I had just witnessed a first hand cheating scandal of someone I had only known via social media!
When Khris asked me what was on my mind, this was the record that came out. There is definitely “Something in the water”.
Did you always plan to release “Something in the water” as a single?
Bailey: Want me to be completely honest? Yes. Yes I did. ‘SITW’ was the first record I had ever collaborated on with Khris. The authenticity of this interaction and the organic creation of this song was something too special not to release. Despite now having my releases more planned out, I always believed that this song would be released as a single at one point in time or another.
How would you compare the creative process behind this single to previous releases?
Bailey: Unlike any producer I’ve ever worked with, Khris (Khris Riddick-Tynes of The Rascals) has a process that is challenging and organic yet completely efficient. Prior to our session, no lyrics were written, tracks created, melodies in mind, nothing was created. After speaking with me about inspiration and my current vibe of the day, he developed a track with the help of a guitarist and 2 other writers. We created a melody, lyrics, and then recorded all vocals, reference and final, in one day.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Bailey: ‘SITW’ was the first song I created where I didn’t have any expectations or preconceived notions placed upon myself before creating this record. Rather than creating music for the sole purpose of pleasing others, I created a song with people I enjoyed working with that made me happy. If we don’t first create art that resonates with us, how can we ever expect our creations to resonate with others?
If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?
Bailey: Don’t be shady and cheat on someone. Kidding! But seriously though… If listeners could take something away from this record, I hope the value of honesty is reinforced. This song is about witnessing someone blatantly disrespecting a person they are supposed to care about. Life is too short to be deceitful. Be honest.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you can currently tell us about?
Bailey: Yes, yes I do! And I am very excited about it! In the summer I am planning on releasing a record that was actually partially responsible for a breakup. Long story… In addition, we are looking to release a larger compilation of music in the fall. I cannot wait to reveal more as final details are confirmed.
Finally, do you have a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Bailey: Live your life with purpose. Your life is so precious and you matter. Do not let anyone, anything, or any circumstance prevent you from making a difference in the world. And don’t forget, love others fearlessly.
