Interview: Jerrica Alyssa Discusses The Release Of Her Upcoming EP ‘Feelin’ New’!

Jerrica Alyssa is an upcoming multi-instrumentalist Filipina-Canadian musician who possesses a naturally captivating soulful R&B sound that looks set to take the music world by storm!

Not long ago, Jerrica released the brand new critically acclaimed single “Feelin’ New”, which is fixed to take the lead on the forthcoming EP of the same name on April 23rd.

Jerrica has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest musical release & her upcoming EP. You can check out what Jerrica said below.

Hey Jerrica, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Jerrica: I’m a Filipina Canadian who grew up in Vancouver, with a loving, large extended family singing and dancing, at every turn. My Lola (grandma) played and taught piano and encouraged me to take lessons..and to practice!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Jerrica: As a baby, I danced to the Phantom of The Opera, over and over. Apparently, everybody thinks it is hilarious, family legend, complete with an accompanying video that my Mom still has.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Jerrica: My take on pop music today is driven by emotional vocals, my love of keyboards, good grooves and an appreciation of the ’70s and 80’s R&B and Soul.

You recently released the self-love anthem “Feelin’ New”. How did the idea for this song come together?

Jerrica: Yes, I wrote this song about my quest to be better at self-love but also about a primal need for all of us to just let go with a new feeling. Hoping folks can experience a positive, wild feeling to help shake the isolation of the pandemic. Then one more inspiration to mention; I’ve got a fascination with Soulful Disco.

Did you always plan to release “Feelin’ New” as a single?

Jerrica: Interesting question and to be honest the answer is no, but a series of pandemic events led to delays for the EP, with fans wondering, so we decided on the single to go first.

How have your family & friends reacted to your latest release?

Jerrica: They love it and like to dance to it!

What does this song personally mean to you?

Jerrica: It is truly part of my quest to love and accept myself.

If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Jerrica: Hoping they can get some new feels going, then get up and dance to the track and later check out other songs on my new EP.

This latest single is set to feature on your forthcoming EP of the same name, on April 23rd. What are some of the things that listeners can expect from your upcoming EP?

Jerrica: The songs have a variety of feels with my fav keyboards and great guitar work grounding the arrangements. So far I’m thankful that listeners enjoy the spicey vocals riding on the solid grooves. Hope you agree that my goal to balance pop perfection with emotional perfection is met, striking a balance in the middle.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Jerrica: Teaching Zumba dance classes and designing dope Halloween costumes.

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose & why?

Jerrica: Probably going to have to say, Bruno Mars. I started off with total respect for him as well as our shared cultural identity, but now that he is pairing up with Anderson. Paak as a duo, I guess I would love the trio over the duet! Silk Sonic knocks me out!!

What is the first album you can recall purchasing & do you still listen to it now?

Jerrica: Michael Jackson, Thriller. I still listen to so many of his songs, all of the time.

What three words best describe you?

Jerrica: Passionate, Witty and Driven.

If you could possess any superpower, what would you choose & why?

Jerrica: Wish I could change or morph into other people and animals, just so I could experience life from their perspective.
