Romanian musician Roxen has caught the attention of global music audiences through personally captivating musical style & passionately heartfelt vocal talents, which has received over 10 million streams on Spotify alone.

In 2020, Roxen was selected to represent Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest, in Rotterdam, with “Alcohol You”. However, due to COVID-19, the contest was sadly cancelled.

Shortly after the cancellation of the contest, it was announced that Roxen was re-selected to represent Romania at the 2021 edition of the competition.

Not long ago, it was revealed that Roxen would be performing the emotionally captivating single “Amnesia” on this years Eurovision stage.

Now Roxen has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the upcoming participation at Eurovision & what the song “Amnesia” means personally. Check out what Roxen had to say below.

Hey Roxen, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Roxen: Hey, thank you for interviewing me, it is a pleasure. 🙂 I am Roxen and I love expressing myself through music. All my life has been related to music, ever since I was a child. I was always dreaming of singing in front of people, giving them all my emotions and energy through my songs. Now I can do this and I couldn’t be happier.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Roxen: When I was a child. I used to sing everywhere, my family discovered this passion of mine and my talent, of course, and supported me a lot in doing music.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Roxen: Absolutely. As I said before, it is what makes me happy, what completes me. I have always known that I wanted to be an artist and I worked and I am still working hard for this.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Roxen: In my music, one can always find feelings, emotions, moods and lines that connect the music, the rhythm, with the message of each song. You can dance like crazy listening to my music or you can take a break looking deep inside, finding your soul.

You were selected to represent Romania at the 2020 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Alcohol You”. However, due to COVID-19, the contest was sadly cancelled. How did you feel when you first heard about the cancellation?

Roxen: I was a bit sad and was thinking if I would still represent Romania at Eurovision in 2021. But I found out the decision soon after that moment and I was really happy and motivated for a great song and concept overall.

It was announced shortly after the cancellation of the contest that you had been re-selected to represent Romania in the 2021 edition of Eurovision. What did it mean to you to be re-selected?

Roxen: I really wanted to represent my country in this huge and important competition, it was a dream of mine since I was a child. As I said before, I felt motivated and I was lucky to have next to me the right people to start working again on this wonderful project which is Eurovision.

The song you will be performing at Eurovision this year is “Amnesia”, which sounds incredible by the way. How did the idea for this song come together?

Roxen: Thank you very much, I am really happy that you like it. 🙂 Amnesia is a special song, which connects me to the present day. Amnesia somehow manages to give a voice to my repressed feelings and to all the people whose voices haven’t been heard.

If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Roxen: That they should feel free and fight for what they believe in, say it loud and act accordingly. Everyone should learn to love themselves, before anyone else. If you start to understand yourself, to dig deep inside yourself, you can easily understand the others and help them if they need it. It all starts from you and then you can spread the love everywhere.

What are some of the things we can expect to see during your performance at Eurovision?

Roxen: You will feel emotion. It is all that I can say for the moment. I would like for it to be a surprise, but for sure we are putting together all the elements for a powerful show.

Have you listened to any of the other songs taking part in this year’s contest? If so, what are some of your favorites?

Roxen: Yes, of course. 🙂 All of them are really great songs, but if I would have to choose one, then it would definitely be Måneskin – “Zitti e buoni”, Italy.

What would you consider to be your all-time favorite Eurovision song & why?

Roxen: Loreen – Euphoria. I admire Loreen, she is a great artist and I really love her style. Euphoria is a very powerful song, one that inspires me.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Roxen: I love meditating and I am happy that this year I had time for this. Also, I enjoy reading SF and psychological books, drawing and walking in nature. And, of course, playing with my two lovely cats. They are an endless source of energy for me.

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose & why?

Roxen: The Weekend. I simply love him, his vibe and energy.

What songs do you always keep on your playlist?

Roxen:Passive Aggressive” – Charlotte Cardin & “Love No More” – Cody Lovaas

What three words best describe you?

Roxen: Emotion, authenticity, & vibration

If you could possess one superpower, what would you choose & why?

Roxen: Stop everyone throwing garbage everywhere and mocking this planet. I would choose this because we should take care more of the planet we live in and protect it as it deserves.

Who would you consider to be the biggest influence within your music?

Roxen: I don’t know if someone specifically influenced my style, because I created it in time, with my feelings, thoughts and everything that suits me. Yes, for sure I have some favorite artists who inspired me during all this time, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, Demi Lovato, Christina Aguilera, just to name a few.

What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Roxen: Follow their dreams, work hard and never stop fighting for what they love the most.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
