Nashville-based singer-songwriter Alannah McCready has attracted the heart of music lovers through her heartfelt musical passion & angelic sounding vocal talent.

Recently, Alannah has released the musically moving new single “Something Like That”, which was co-written alongside Will Gittens & produced by Sterling “David” Gittens Jr.

Alannah has taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the inspiration behind her emotive new release & what this song personally means to her. Check out the full interview below.

Hey Alannah, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Alannah: Hi! I’m Alannah McCready! I am a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, but I grew up in Blaine, Minnesota. My mom is from Oklahoma and is the main reason I grew up loving country music so much. I used to listen to the powerful women of country music with her as a kid.

I went to college at the University of Wisconsin- Madison where I was a member of the NCAA Champion Women’s Ice Hockey Team. After college, I was living in NYC doing PR for a sports management company when I finally got the opportunity to do music full-time. I quit my job and moved to the south and have been a professional country singer-songwriter since 2012.

Country music has always been my passion. I just love the way country songs allow you to connect with your listener and each song takes you somewhere emotionally.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Alannah: My mom is from Oklahoma, so I grew up listening to the great women of country music like Reba, Trisha, Martina, and Shania and they really shaped who I am as a singer and a songwriter. I used to mimic how they sang and teach myself how to sing to their songs. But even before then, my parents tell me I was always singing and making up songs from the moment I could talk!

When is the first time you can recall performing in front of a live audience?

Alannah: I have unfortunately seen the video footage of me as a young girl but the earliest performance I can remember is a talent show in middle school!

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Alannah: I think I’ve always known this is what I wanted to do with my life. Even from a young age, I would draw pictures for my parents of me singing in front of people and write, “I am happy when I sing.”  As I got older, it was just a gut feeling. I am obsessed with music and how it makes people feel and I consider myself lucky that I get to be a part of this industry. While I was living in NYC, I had an opportunity to come to Nashville and record a few songs, and from that point forward, there was no looking back.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Alannah: I would describe my musical style as modern/contemporary country with some soul!

You recently released the new single “Something Like That”. How did the idea for this song come together?

Alannah: When Will Gittens and I sat down to write this song, we knew we wanted it to be simple yet relatable. With this song, we were really looking to write about what a lot of people think but might not say. We wanted to get down to the parts of what a true and honest relationship would consist of because, at the end of the day, that’s what we should all strive to find.

How would you compare the creative process behind this single to your previous releases?

Alannah: I would say the creative process behind this single and my upcoming project has been different because I created this entire project with Will Gittens and Sterling Gittens Jr. In the past, I have had more people involved in the collaboration process. While that is also an awesome experience, I think the fact that the three of us created these songs from start to finish gives the project a very cohesive feel that we are proud to share!

What does this song personally mean to you?

Alannah: It means a lot to me especially since it is the first music that I have released in over three years. That alone feels very special to me. As far as the song itself, I feel like when getting into relationships or talking about them, a lot of us have these detailed answers of all the specific things we want out of a relationship. Sometimes, the things that we say we need can be outrageous or nitpicky.

Over the years and many failed relationships, I have learned that what we need most are simple things. Life is too short and at this point, I am only interested in someone who can be honest with me, spend time with me, and treat me well.

If listeners could take one thing away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Alannah: I’m hoping listeners take away a feeling of hope and self-love. I think a lot of relationships don’t work because there is something we still have yet to learn about ourselves. Once we do, it becomes much easier to navigate what you need and deserve from a partner.  I am hoping that listeners can relate to the story of the song and be able to apply it to a situation they might be going through.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Alannah: Your potential is endless! Do not let anyone dim your light or deter you from doing what you love! Your life is your journey. It might not always have only one path, so enjoy the ride and do what makes you happy!
