Interview: Kris Angelis Discusses The Release Of Her Latest Single “Meet You in Our Dreams”!

Singer-songwriter Kris Angelis has been capturing the hearts of music lovers everywhere through her vibrantly visionary musical style & angelic vocals that has swiftly accumulated over 300,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Kris now looks to make waves on the music scene once again with the brand new single “Meet You In Our Dreams” & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release. Find out what she said below.

Hey Kris, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Kris: I grew up on a farm in Florida with horses and cows. I have an identical twin sister that I wrote songs and learned to harmonize with. I got into theater when my family moved to Northern California. I love reading, baking, playing games, Harry Potter, handwritten letters, and being in nature.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Kris: I guess it started when I was pretty young when listening to my parents and grandparents’ records and watching musicals. I started playing violin when I was 9 and joined a youth orchestra and choirs – it was so magical to be in the midst of and part of that music. I dreamed of pursuing music but didn’t really take action toward that until later after doing a lot of theater training and performing. I didn’t realize the it was really something I could do when I was very young – singers and musicians seemed like these other-worldly creatures.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Kris: I’d say it’s Americana which I know is a pretty broad genre. It’s inspired by the storytelling, melodies, and chords of folk music, with some pop and country influence.

You are about to release the brand new single “Meet You In Our Dreams”. How did the idea for this single come together?

Kris: A while back, I was in a long distance relationship for a long time and we would talk on the phone before bed and at the end of the conversation, sometimes we’d pick a place to meet up in our dreams. That’s where the spark of the idea came from and it can apply to anyone and especially during this time of social distancing – imagining a beautiful place where you can meet up with loved ones without worries is engaging. It also came from what I say in the first line of the song: That I never know when I’m dreaming. I will check by pinching myself or hitting my leg and conclude that I am, in fact, awake even though I’m not. I’ll wake up with such visceral feelings about whatever happened and be relieved (if it was bad) when I finally realize it’s not real. It also seems like I wake up right before the thing I’ve been looking forward to happens in the dream. These things may be very common and hopefully that means the song is relatable!

How would you describe the creative process behind this single to your previous releases?

Kris: It was different because with Covid. I had to meet with Dov Rosenblatt outside in his yard about 8 feet apart with masks on the whole time while we were righting it! Then the recording process was more remote than ever before as well. On the creative side, I added a bridge like part after the session with Dov and just decided to keep that going for the rest of the song which is a bit unusual and I don’t think I had done before, but I liked how the first part was more about a kind of struggle and holding on to something and then it breaks down and its like falling asleep and into the dream and there is an energetic shift so it didn’t feel like you would go back to the feeling of the beginning.

Did you always know that you would release “Meet You In Our Dreams” as a single?

Kris: I knew that I would be releasing singles from the upcoming album and after the writing session, I thought the song was a contender for being one of them, but I didn’t go into the writing session thinking “I’m going to write a single”

What message would you like listeners to take away from this song?

Kris: I know that everyone hears and feels vastly different things from songs based on what’s going on in their lives so I don’t want to tell anyone what to get from it. I’m always so interested to hear what people get with out me saying anything. But I do hope they get some feelings of hope and peace, maybe inspiration to dream and let go of what’s holding you back, or to hold on to something you feel strongly about, or just a feeling of not being alone if you’re still longing.

Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are currently able to tell us about?

Kris: Yes, I’m going to be releasing and album on April 30th called “The Skies We Look To” and there will be two more singles from it before the release. I’m trying to get as many pre-orders as I can for the album (they make a huge difference for indie artists like me) and you can visit krisangelis.com to see how you can get rewards for preordering.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Kris: I mentioned in the first question that I enjoy reading, cooking, and playing games. Lots of nerdy board games and running charades which I really miss during lockdown. I also like hiking, camping, and gardening! Helping things grow is so rewarding!

What advice would you offer someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Kris: Make friends with other musicians – you’ll learn so much and be able to write together, cross promote, etc. Community is key! Help each other, get inspired, and lift each other up rather than thinking of it as a competition. Also, start learning how writing and publishing ownership works and get that stuff all organized. And settle in for a long ride 🙂 Most of the people who seem like overnight successes have been working at if for a long time that you didn’t know about. As someone said to me “The ones who succeed in this business are the ones who are left, who didn’t give up.”

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Kris: Know that you are fierce and fabulous even if it looks different than someone else’s fierce and fabulous! Stay safe, love yourself, and love others by keeping them safe with the words you speak, the choices you make, and the way you care for the Earth. I know that probably sounded soapbox-y, but it’s true! You have so much power! I’m saying it all to myself too. xoxo
