Upcoming singer-songwriter Raff Pylon has continuously created waves within the music scene with his distinct musical style that has gained over 200,000 streams on Spotify alone.
Raff has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about his latest single “Christmas In California” that features rapper, Snoop Dogg. Find out what he had to say below.
Hey Raff, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Raff: Thanks for the invite! Well I was a singer for a band in Montreal called Bridgeway that had decent success in Canada for a few years, and that was a lot of fun. Now I am new to this solo career thing and I am also enjoying the process of being by myself taking care of my art, and looking at the recent developments I’m definitely motivated for what’s to come!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Raff: This started when I was very young. My dad showed me the Beatles Anthology when I was 2 1/2 years old and it clicked in my head right away. I started playing drums when I was 3, then piano when I was 6 and guitars when I was 11, and started singing around 12 when I wrote my first song.
Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?
Raff: Not really, I was very much into sports at that age, and hockey was my main thing for years. But around 15 years old, when I truly realized that some people in this world were actually making a real living out of music and playing live in front of audiences, that brought me to desire this job for myself too.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Raff: If you like Shawn Mendes and 5 Seconds of Summer you’ll definitely like me hahah!
You recently released the new single “Christmas In California” alongside Snoop Dogg. What inspired the creation of this song?
Raff: It all started when I was in the studio with my producers Earl Powell and Ben Pelchat in Toronto. We wanted to work on a Christmas song but I really wanted to make an original one that would have a unique sound. So we tried a few things, then one morning I got to the studio and the guys had started working on a summery Christmas vibe that inspired me, and that inspiration gave me the idea of making it a Christmas in California!
How did the idea to collaborate alongside Snoop Dogg come together?
Raff: As we kept working on the song in that same session and we got to the bridge, we felt like we needed a rap verse. And since the song is called Christmas in California it came to us that naturally it needed to be Snoop Dogg!
What does the song personally mean to you?
Raff: When I started writing it, it was simply an idea that sounded good and the words fit nicely with the vibe of the track we were working on. But I have since then met a girl in California so the song has become much more meaningful to me now. It’s like the song literally became my life hahah!
What message would you like listeners to take from this song?
Raff: I think the message is just to enjoy the unique moments of your life and to be thankful for these moments and the people that you live them with, whether it’s a Holiday or any other time.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you can tell us about?
Raff: I am working on a lot of new songs for the upcoming year actually! My team and I are currently planning to release one every month or so throughout 2021, and we will keep everyone in touch as to specific dates and songs along the way through my social media!
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Raff: I’m a big sports fan! I’ve been doing hockey, basketball, golf and snowboard all my life, and I do enjoy watching sports too! Travelling is also one of my passions. I’ve had the chance to visit many countries along my life so far and I look forward to discovering more of the world. And then I also enjoy film and video games very much as well!
What was the first record you can recall purchasing & do you still listen to it now?
Raff: I don’t have a vivid memory of what my first record was but I do remember 50 Cent and Beyoncé were some of the first records I bought by myself. I’ve always had a wide spectrum of tastes hahah!
If you could possess any superpower, what would you choose & why?
Raff: I think anything that could help me make the world a better place would work. Something like healing abilities to save people’s lives, or to be kinda like Superman so I could keep people out of harm’s way. But low key if I could fly I would save a lot on planes hahah!
What advice would you offer someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Raff: Confidence and modesty are two seemingly contradictory things that can do miracles for your life when you put them together. And that applies to any aspect of one’s life.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Raff: I am truly hoping that Christmas in California will light up your holidays and that we will be able to enjoy some time together when live concerts start again! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
