Interview: Stephanie Ryann Discusses The Release Of Her Single “I Should”!

Upcoming country singer-songwriter Stephanie Ryann recently released the official video for her phenomenal single “I Should” & has kindly taken some time to speak to Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest musical piece. Check out what Stephanie had to say below.

Hey Stephanie, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Stephanie: Well hey everyone! My name is Stephanie Ryann. I’m a country singer and songwriter originally from Westchester, NY. I grew up listening to a ton of different music, but country music was where I felt “at home”. Fast forward many years, I released my debut EP in 2018 and haven’t stopped pursing a music career since. Since the pandemic hit, a lot has changed for me, including teaching myself guitar which has diversified my writing style and sound.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Stephanie: I think it all began as a child. My mother was in a band before she had children and would always sing around the house. My earliest memories are of her singing and playing her guitar.

Have you always known that a career within music was something that you wanted to pursue?

Stephanie: Yes! Music has always been an important part of my life. It’s helped me through the good times and the bad…it’s always there for me, no matter what. I couldn’t imagine life without pursuing music in some way.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Stephanie: My musical style is what I’d refer to as “modern country”…it’s a mix of country, folk, pop and a little rock. Country music is such a broad category now. We’re all a mix of something!

You recently released the official video for “I Should”. How did the idea to create this song come together?

Stephanie: “I Should” is one of my favorite songs I’ve released. I wrote this song down in Nashville before a scheduled write with my friends Ronny Criss and Scott Kurt. The idea for the song was very personal…as a woman, society has certain expectations of you, some of which I’ve had no intention of following. I wrote this song to help empower those who want to follow their dreams and not conform to others expectations.

How do you feel the official video reflects the story behind the song?

Stephanie: The story for the video was one my producer, Alex Winter, and I came up with. I wanted to stay as literal as I could with the lyrics, so we followed them like a script, creating a storyline of myself wanting to leave home to follow my dream of pursuing a career in music.

What does the song personally mean to you?

Stephanie: The song is my anthem for going against the grain in life. It took me a long time to get to a place in my life where I felt I was truly living for myself, not to please others. It was a hard lesson to learn, but I’m so thankful I’ve grown to become the woman I am today.

If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Stephanie: I’d like this song to empower people, especially women, to go out and live life the way they want to, and to never be sorry for it.

Are there any further releases planned that you are able to tell us about?

Stephanie: Oh yes! My current plan is to continue releasing singles every couple of months, along with music videos and other content, until the day comes where that changes (maybe a record deal someday!).

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce and Fabulous Revolution?

Stephanie: The message I have for your readers is to find a way to be comfortable and confident in who you are. Not everyone will like you, but you’re not here to please everyone. Life is short, so live for yourself and surround yourself with people who lift you up.
