Interview: Caitlin Mae Discusses The Release Of Her Upcoming Single “A Candle For Christmas”!

Upcoming UK based country singer-songwriter Caitlin Mae has been creating an impact on the current music scene with her moving lyricism & ear-catching sound.

Now, Caitlin is about to release the emotional new single “A Candle For Christmas” on the 13th November 2020 & has kindly spoken to Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her upcoming musical piece.

Hey Caitlin, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Caitlin: Hey, thank you so much for having me. My name is Caitlin Mae, I’m 18 years old and based in South Wales. My dream of pursuing country music started to become a reality when I was chosen to sing at Princess Anne’s Grounds at the age of 15. Every minute was a blast and I knew my path was set. Prior to this I performed every chance I had, no matter the stage or the crowd, I couldn’t get enough but this was my first time providing the full entertainment with a set of 22 songs. After that night, I felt I could do anything and have had such amazing opportunities since then to perform on bigger and better stages. Last year, in June 2019, I sang with Carrie Underwood at the Motorpoint Arena on the UK leg of her Cry Pretty Tour and then in November of that year I released my first song, ‘The Dream’. The journey has been an incredible one so far and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next, especially on the horizon of my newest release ‘A Candle For Christmas’.

When did you first discover your passion for music & knew that it was a career that you wanted to pursue?

Caitlin: At the age of 2 my parents bought a holiday home in Florida and we would travel there every year to spend quality time as a family. Anytime you’d turn the car radio on, you’d be met with country music and I loved it, however, it was totally unknown to me back then that it would have such a huge impact in my life and offer me such escapism and tranquillity. Even more so, I had no idea that before long I would fall in love with the art of song writing and the chance to tell my story. I remember the first country song I learnt and sang on stage being Maren Morris’ ‘My Church’ and that song will always hold a special place in my heart.

How would you describe your musical stye to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Caitlin: My music always tells a story and, in particular, my upcoming releases are heartfelt and full of passion. I always make it my sole mission to write from the heart and capture the meaning behind the lyrics. My musical style often has a rocky edge to it, I like songs full of grit, purpose and personality, where your strength of character shines through. I believe you can take an experience and not only write a tragic take on it but produce an uplifting song about moving on, taking the high road, never giving up and most importantly being your own special self, who wouldn’t change for anyone!

You are about to release the brand new single “A Candle For Christmas”, How did the inspiration to create this song come together?

Caitlin: The inspiration behind ‘A Candle For Christmas’ initially came from a place of empathy for those who have lost loved ones through military related tragedies. We have family friends over in the USA connected to the forces and I wanted to show the love and respect I have for each and every one of them through this song. I know not everyone is lucky enough to return home and we are privileged to have people with such good hearts willing to continuously and tirelessly fight on our behalf.

However, none of us could have foreseen 2020 turning out this way, with the spread of a worldwide pandemic, but it only makes me feel that this song, of loss and missing that special someone, was written in the stars right from the beginning, falling into place at just the right time to offer people comfort.

How would you describe the creative process behind this song compared to your previous release?

Caitlin: My song writing process is usually split between happy-go-lucky songs (like my first original song, ‘The Dream’) and the complete opposite, tragic, touching numbers. My latest upcoming release, ‘A Candle For Christmas’, takes you on the latter journey and I spent my time really wanting to get the body of the song right as I felt it was such an important message. I enjoyed writing it, although it could be draining on times as it called for a very emotional mindset to sit down and really get what I was feeling down on paper. When recording this song in the studio, I actually felt very emotional and would sometimes get lost in the words, losing my place, and I hope this means the process really paid off.

How did your family & friends react to this upcoming release? Or have you been keeping it secret to the release?

Caitlin: I have been keeping my close family in the loop with my upcoming releases and they are very proud and so supportive. Apart from that, I have been quite quiet during the writing process but now I’m ready to shout it from the rooftops!

What does the song personally mean to you?

Caitlin: To me ‘A Candle For Christmas’ is so special and really pulls on my heartstrings knowing how much people have lost this year that they can never get back. I wish there was some way to take that pain away and I hope, if only a little, my song can provide some solace.

If listeners could take away anything from this song, what would you like it to be?

Caitlin: It goes without saying that Christmas tradition will never be the same after losing someone so close to your heart, however, if listeners could take away anything from this song, it would be the gift of remembering them and looking back on happier memories. Even if they cannot be there with you physically, they will always be there in spirit and in this way, you will never truly, fully lose them.

Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are able to tell us about at the moment?

Caitlin: After ‘A Candle For Christmas’ is released on November 13th, I have a second Christmas single coming out on December 4th! Following this, I am releasing a 4 song EP in early 2021! (date TBD).
