Upcoming indie-pop singer-songwriter Emmrose has recently released the heartfelt new single “Ballad For The Boy Next Door” & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest musical release.
Hey Emmrose, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Emmrose: I’m a 17 year old singer-songwriter who lives in New York City! I’m a hopeless romantic who writes honest songs about the dark side of love and friendship.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Emmrose: I was really young when I discovered the piano, and it just started from there! Of course, I’ve always loved music, I think I always knew this would be my path.
What is the first song that you can recall performing in front of an audience & do you still sing it now?
Emmrose: My first truly original song was way back in the summer of 7th grade. It was called “I’m a shooting star” and I remember trying to record it with my piano teacher and singing it in front of my class. I definitely don’t sing it anymore, but my mom still wants me too.
How would you describe your musical style to some unfamiliar with your music?
Emmrose: I would describe my style as indie pop, kinda dreamy, and beautiful.
You recently released the brand new single “Ballad for the Boy Next Door”. How did the idea to create this song come together?
Emmrose: I was thinking back to when I used to be afraid to tell the person I had a crush on that I liked them, and that mindset of either getting it over with or just giving up.
How would you compare the creative prosses behind this song, to your previous releases?
Emmrose: It was very different! I’m working with a sync licensing company that gave me a pitch for a romantic tv show. I was immediately inspired by what they wanted, so I sat down at the piano and wrote the song! I found the chords and the melody very easy to create, but the lyrics took a bit longer. Eventually, I finished the song, and I’m really happy with it!
What does this song personally mean to you?
Emmrose: If I had listened to this song back in my freshman year, I would relate to it on another level. I definitely don’t have this mindset anymore, so it was interesting to go back into that point of view. I guess the song is a “don’t worry you’re not crazy” to my past self.
If listeners could take away one thing from this song, what would you like it to be?
Emmrose: To be open with your feelings. Getting rejected isn’t the end of the world, and if they like you back then it’s really been worth it! I wanted it to be hopeful, but also honest. It’s really hard to be so vulnerable when you tell someone you like them, but it’s definitely important.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are able to tell us about?
Emmrose: I’m working on a full-length album! I’m super excited for my fans to hear all the projects I’ve been working on.
What advice would you offer someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Emmrose: You gotta love it with your whole heart and soul. There’s a ton of rejection, and that can really hurt. The music industry is super complicated and doesn’t work out for everyone. I’m still not good with dealing with rejection, but I just try and move on. Someone out there must like my music!
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Emmrose: Stay tuned for my livestreams on Instagram as well as a Christmas song that I’m working on! Thank you so much for all the love and support, you guys are the best!
