Upcoming alt-pop singer-songwriter Jazz Mino has been creating a huge buzz within the music scene with singles such as “Crush” & “Over You”, which has received over 10 million streams on Spotify.
Now, this gifted artist is showing a rawer & vulnerable side in the form of the emotional new single titled “Part Of This”.
Jazz has kindly taken some time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release, along with getting to know more about the sensational musician.
Hey Jazz, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Jazz: Hey! My name is Jazz and I’m an alt-pop artist from UK. I was born in Manchester, but have spent most of my time chilling with cows in Somerset. If you like Lauv, LANY, Pokemon, or you’re vegan – We’ll be besties.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Jazz: To be honest I’ve been passionate about music since I can remember. It’s just always something I was drawn to as a kid, and I started singing pretty much as soon as I could talk aha. I started learning violin in primary school. Then my Gran taught me to play the piano and read music – and I was away!
Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?
Jazz: Yeah. I’ve always been super drawn to music from a really young age and didn’t really want to spend much time doing anything else. So it seemed like a wise career choice for me 🙂
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Jazz: From a songwriting perspective, I’m quite narrative and I tend to always write about my life and experiences. In terms of genre, I describe my sound as alternative pop.
You are about to release the single “Part Of This” on November 6th. How did the idea to create this song come together?
Jazz: Sadly I was going through a pretty tough time with a (now) ex when I wrote the song. We were together and it was at that point where you are so desperate to make it work, but it just feels so broken. It’s weird to listen to it now, because at the time of writing it I genuinely thought we’d figure things out and stay together. The lyrics are obviously very sad, but the song is also about courage. About having the courage to speak up when your gut tells you something isn’t right. It’s about trusting your instincts, which can be so hard to do. I’m proud of myself for speaking up, and hopefully it’ll give others who listen the confidence to speak up too.
How would you describe the creative process behind this song, compared to your previous releases?
Jazz: So I initially wrote the song on the ukulele! I co-produced and developed the song with Clayton, who I’ve co-produced and written with a lot lately. We decided to replace the ukulele with an organic electric guitar sound, and then we sort of built this dreamy vibe around the guitar and vocals.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are able to tell us about?
Jazz: I’ve been spending most of lockdown writing and co-producing songs, and this week I’ve been finishing them off and recording my vocals in the studio! I’m so, SO excited to share them. So it’s safe to say they’ll be plenty of releases from me for 2021 😁 (psst – If you can’t wait that long, I do have a Patreon where I post exclusive sneak previews + behind the scenes of me in the studio 🎵💕 – https://www.patreon.com/jazzmino )
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Jazz: I really love cooking! I’m vegan and also half-Iranian, so I love trying to ‘veganise’ Iranian dishes, and just generally being creative. Honestly one of the highlights of my week atm is this breakfast I’ve been having which is: Coconut Collab vegan yoghurt, topped with banana, passion fruit, Physalis, Pistachio, Flaxeed, Almonds, Desiccated Coconut, all the types of seeds you can imagine, then topped with agave. I’m aware of how boring I’m sounding so I’m just gonna stop there or I’ll be talking about food for the whole interview… 😂 I also love running and reading as much as I can, and I’ve spent a large portion of lockdown re-watching the Pokemon series, playing the TCG and trying to get a Charizard!
If you could perform a duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?
Jazz: Dead: Freddie Mercury although I’d probably cry half-way through. Alive: Lauv for sure. I’d love to co-write and release a song with him!
What would you consider to be your favourite movie of all time?
Jazz: That’s a bit too tough to answer so I’m gonna go with the first thing that came to mind which was Hercules. 😅
What was the last TV show you binge-watched, & did you enjoy it?
Jazz: Schitz Creek and I loved it so much that I’m jealous of everybody who hasn’t watched it, that gets to experience it for the first time. If you haven’t seen it – GO WATCH IT NOW!!!!! I’m still trying to nail my Moira impression haha.
If you could guest appear on any TV show, which would you choose & why?
Jazz: Hmmm, okay so you know when they put they broadcast Glastonbury Festival on TV for those who can’t make the festival? That’s the TV show I’d like to be part of haha… Maybe Sunday Brunch cause I know they’d feed me well.
If you could possess any superpower, what would you choose?
Jazz: I thought about this a lot and I’m going to choose Flying. Imagine the wonder! Imagine the terror! Woooosh!
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Jazz: I guess, come say hey over on on Instagram! 🙂 https://www.instagram.com/jazz_mino_uk And to introduce you to some of my favourite songs right now
1. Never Say Ily Again – Alex Porat 2. Charlie – Sam Tompkins 3. not ur friend – Jeremy Zucker (the lyrics are golden 😂)
