Kieran Lancini is a UK based country singer-songwriter, originally from North Queensland, Australia, who is set to release the brand new single titled “I Need You” on October 23rd.
Following on from the recent success of his comeback single “The Reason” earlier this year, Kieran is following it up with this romantic & heartfelt country ballad.
Kieran has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about his upcoming release. Find out what he had to say below.
Hey Kieran, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Kieran: Hello Hello – I’m Kieran Lancini. I am originally from Australia and have been living in the UK for the past 14 years. In my youth i had a successful country music career after winning a national competition called Star Maker ( way back in 2002 – which resulted in a national tour, a top 5 and top 10 single. After an 18 year hiatus, i have taken the bold step back into the music scene with the release of a single in May ( The Reason) and about to release my follow up – I Need You. I am so excited.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Kieran: My music has some traditional country with a bit of pop sensibilities mixed in. I love to write and the storytelling aspect is very important to me with my songs.
Earlier this year, you released the brand new single “The Reason” – your first release in 18 years – What inspired you to create this musical return?
Kieran: In 2019 i was invited back to the 40th Anniversary show for Star Maker where the majority of the winners were to perform. I was very, very nervous as I had not sung in front of an audience with a proper band in a long long time. After thinking about it long and hard, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. I was a complete wreck before going on stage, but the reaction and comments I got from everyone after was really encouraging and that moment the fire was lit inside me to maybe dip my toe back into the scene and release something.
You received a large gathering of love & positivity for “The Reason”, how did it feel to experience all of this support for your first release in 18 years?
Kieran: I wrote The Reason by chance with a fellow Australian musician who was staying with me for a few days in between her UK tour. We cracked open the wine and I told her this story about my ancestors flipping a coin to move to either Australia or Canada from Scotland. I like to think that I inherited some of that adventurous spirit as I moved away from Oz to the UK. I really didn’t think anything of it when i released it – thinking that at least my mum and dad will get to hear it. I was so shocked when it went to number 2 here in the UK and top 20 in Oz. I literally thought no one would have cared. It was so surprising and nice. I still can’t believe it.
You are about to release the brand new single “I Need You” on October 23rd. How did the idea to create this song come together?
Kieran: Due to the success of The Reason – people were asking when the follow up would be coming. I was scratching my head and thinking “What the hell am I going to do now?”. I found an old box of tapes with songs I had written when I lived in Sydney – the year following my Star Maker win, and I stumbled across I Need You. It immediately popped out as being the next track I wanted to release.
How would you describe the creative process behind this song compared to your recent comeback single “The Reason”?
Kieran: I Need You was a co-write with Phil Barton, who has since gone on to move to Nashville and wrote the No1 US hit A Woman Like You for Lee Brice, and songs for Sara Evans, Dustin Lynch, Bobby Bones and a host of other A List American Country talent.
I recall the song being written in an afternoon. We wrote over 30 songs together during a year period and they were always done within a morning or afternoon.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Kieran: This song is so special to me as it immediately transports me back to my time in Sydney when we wrote this song – all those years go.
If listeners could take away anything from this release, what would you like it to be?
Kieran: It would be to always say ‘I Love You’ to that someone special – as sometimes life gets in the way and you sometimes miss those important moments. Always show appreciation and love to everyone around you.
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Kieran: I am a horror movie fan – so love watching a classic or new horror. I love writing and keeping up those creative juices flowing.
If you could duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?
Kieran: I would love to do a duet with Vince Gill. I have been obsessed with his voice ever since i was a teenager and absolutely love his vocal delivery. The guy is a legend.
What advice would you offer to someone who is looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Kieran: Just be yourself. Don’t try to change your style of music to fit any specific medium or genre. ‘You do You; if you do, then you will be successful not only in music, but in life. Take chances, go out on the limb and challenge yourself whether it be with writing with another artist outside of your specific genre. Mostly play that music for your soul, for you, regardless of how many people are watching or listening.
