Interview: Jessica Magro Discusses The Release Of Her Single “Break The Silence”!

Maltese singer-songwriter Jessica Magro has just released her brand new single titled “Break The Silence”!

Jessica has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release, along with getting to know more about the artist behind the music.

Hey Jess, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Jess: I am Jessica Magro and I have been singing since the tender age of 12. I work as a full-time Digital Marketing Executive in Malta, which I love. But, my true passion in life is music and singing.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Jess: I always remember myself singing in front of the mirror but when I started secondary school my music teacher noted my voice and she left a note in my diary for my parents to read. My parents started taking me to singing lessons and I have been singing ever since.

What was the first song you performed in front of a live audience & do you still perform it now?

Jess: The first song I performed was 7th wonder by Ira Losco. I was a nervous wreck back then. However, I do not sing this anymore.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your work?

Jess: My musical style is pop with a twist. As a songwriter, I try to create songs that are interesting to listen to, have a pop vibe and with meaningful lyrics.

You have just released your brand-new single “Break The Silence”. How did the idea to create this song come together?

Jess: This song has been in the making for the past year. I started writing this song whilst I was preparing to take a shower (yes, really), and the chorus just came to my head. I instantly wrote down the chorus, lyrics, and recorded the melody. From then on I started building up the rest of the song and I really loved the end result. Due to covid, it had to take a back burner but then I contacted Wicked&Loud Studios and started working on the musical arrangement.

What would you consider to be the main inspiration behind the single?

Jess: I see several people that are afraid to speak their mind with the fear that they will be judged or scolded. So, I wanted to create something to show that no one should be afraid to speak up and say their opinion.. about anything. Your voice and your mind are the only two things that will make you stand out from the crowd.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Jess: I used to be one of those people who was afraid to speak up. But experiences in life has thought me to not hold back. This song shows even more my experience and I am trying to encourage other people to make their voice heard.

If listeners could take one thing from this song, what would you like to be?

Jess: That YOUR voice is the only source that will make you stand out from the crowd.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing, aside from music?

Jess: I love reading and traveling (when funds are available and covid is over).

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose & why?

Jess: Demi Lovato. She inspires me so much. She has gone through a lot through her life however she has always risen above all the hardships and I admire her for that. Also, her voice is just beautiful.

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

Jess: To be honest, I do not have a set playlist. If a song strikes me I obsess and listen to it for a month non stop and then I am over it.

What was the first album you remember purchasing & do you still listen to it now?

Jess: I first and only album I purchased is ‘Minutes to Midnight’ by Linkin Park. I was obsessed with them at a point in my life and when one of their songs comes on the radio I remember how much I used to love the band and I turn on the volume.

If you could offer advice to anyone who is looking to pursue a career within the music industry, what would it be?

Jess: To NEVER give up. It is not an easy industry to be in. You will find a lot of hurdles and you will be told ‘no’ a lot of the times, but you have to persevere, believe in yourself and make your dreams happen.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Jess: I would like to thank you for reading this interview and I really hope you love my second single as much as I do. Never be afraid to speak up and to break the silence!! Visit my YouTube Channel and Facebook Page to listen to ‘Break the Silence’ and feel free to add it to your playlists.
