Interview: Cassidy Discusses The Release Of Her Brand New Single “The Devil”!

Calgary born, now Berlin-based singer-songwriter Cassidy has followed up the success of her debut singles “Sex and Wine” and “Lying”, with the release of the emotionally touching ballad “The Devil”.

Cassidy has kindly taken some time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her recent release, along with getting to know more from the artist behind the music.

Hey Cassidy, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Cassidy: Hey! Thank you for having me!  I am Cassidy and I am originally from Calgary Canada but am currently based out of Berlin. I am an artist of poetry and music that strives for complete honesty in my work. My favourite subject matter tends to be heart break aha.

When did you first discover your musical passion & have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?

Cassidy: I have been performing since I could talk but there is a video of me at about 3 years old asking my dad to “welcome me to the stage” (our living room) and me performing the sailor moon theme song. It is adorable as hell and I think my parents knew around this time I should get some sort of training. So I started with dance classes and singing lessons and studying classical musical. Eventually I moved to NYC to go to college and worked performing jobs overseas for a German company which is why I found myself in Berlin. I have always wanted this career. I think I told half of Calgary when I was a kid that I would win a grammy one day haha. At the beginning of this year my notebook was filled with lyrics and was running out of pages so I decided it was time to finally pursue my proper dream of a career in Music.

How would you describe your musical style to anyone unfamiliar with your music?

Cassidy: I would say raw, emotional, organic and honest. Its very important for me to be true to what I am feeling when writing a song and that can cause quite a visceral reaction in me, but my music wouldn’t leave an impact if I diluted it with easier content.

You recently released the brand new single “The Devil”, how did the idea to create this song come together?

Cassidy: “The Devil” I wrote a few years ago at probably the lowest point in my life. I was at the tail end of an on and off again relationship that never had a proper label but came with all the baggage and was completely broken. I had lost sight of who I was as a person and found solace in partying and being wild and crazy because it was easier to be the life of the party having an amazing time then to really admit how badly I was hurting. This song was really healing for me in a lot of ways because I allowed myself to lean into the pain instead of brushing it under a rug waiting for me to trip on it later.

What is the main inspiration behind this single?

Cassidy: A devilishly handsome German.

How would you describe the creative process behind this song, compared to your previous releases?

Cassidy: I wrote this song with my piano, and a bottle of cabernet sauvignon in the middle of the night and was finished by the time the sun rose in the morning. I always try and finish a song quickly at minimum the lyrics or else I tend to lose the spark and interest in the song.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Cassidy: This song means the world to me honestly. It was a massively healing piece for me and I hope my words can lend peace to my listeners going through the same kind of emotions that I went through.

What message would you like listeners to take away from listening to this song?

Cassidy: It is okay to hurt, and cry and feel and sometimes its okay to sit in your emotions for a while because it is always a better option then pretending the pain isn’t there.

Do you have any future musical releases planned that you are able to tell us about at the moment?

Cassidy: I have two singles that are ready and recorded which will be released over the next couple months and am working on getting back into the studio! I have a song I wrote called “Coffee” that I am just dying to get recorded.

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?

Cassidy: Traveling and food are two passions of mine! I have been lucky enough to go to more then 60 countries around the world and trying all the international cuisine lit a fire in me for new and interesting flavours!

What was the first single you purchased & do you still listen to it now?

Cassidy: I don’t know the first single but the first album I bought was Avril Lavigne’s  “Let Go” in 2002 and I was probably close to burning a hole through that CD I was her biggest fan when I was 7. I haven’t listened to it in a while but if we are being honest I am 100% re-downloading after this interview!

What was the last TV series you binge-watched & did you enjoy it?

Cassidy: I have been on the Greys Anatomy train. I just started Season 16 and am already dreading the season finale. It is soo addicting.

If you could guest appear on any TV show, which one would you choose?

Cassidy: Ooo I would probably go back in time and do an appearance on Parks and Rec or give me some scrubs and I am ready for season 17 of greys.

What is one item that you can’t live without?

Cassidy: My dog Louis. I mean he isn’t an item so to say but he is my little love and I can’t imagine my days without him!

If you could possess any superpower, which one would you choose & why?

Cassidy: Teleportation! My sister lives in New Zealand and my parents in Canada and I am in Germany so it would be lovely to snap my fingers and be able to have lunch with my family.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Cassidy: I want to say a massive thank you! For every like stream, follow and share. To be able to share my voice and music with people all around the world is extremely humbling and I am so grateful for every passing second. Also YOU are perfect the way you are and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!!
