UK based artist Laura Beckwith is an upcoming country-pop singer-songwriter, who is about to release her brand new single “Halfway” on September 25th 2020.
Laura has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest release, along with getting to know more about the artist behind the music.
Hey Laura, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Laura: Thank you so much for having me! My name is Laura Beckwith and I’m a country-pop artist based in Essex!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Laura: I attended theatre school at age three and performed in musical theatre shows for many years. On the side I practised singing and taking piano lessons. I’ve always been incredibly passionate about performing but it wasn’t until after finishing a two-year intensive course in musical theatre, I realised that I was more interested in music.
What is the first song that you can recall performing in front of an audience & do you still perform it now?
Laura: I was at theatre school and there was a showcase where we could perform anything – I performed an original song called ‘Scorpio’. That song was definitely not one of my best.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Laura: I aim to tell a story through my lyrics whilst creating a catchy sound in the melody and production.
You are about to release your brand new single “Halfway” on September 25th. How did the idea to create this single come together?
Laura: I’ve always loved country music and I use this style predominately through my lyrics. Over lockdown I listened to more country music and after writing this song I knew that I wanted to create and release this as a country song. The writing process for ‘Halfway’ was done differently to most of my other songs. I managed to write the lyrics within a day, however the melody and instrumental took much longer.
What is the main inspiration behind the lyrics of the song?
Laura: The main inspiration for this song came from an argument that was extremely heated and long.
What does the song personally mean to you?
Laura: I always subconsciously write songs to say something that may be harder to speak. I feel that ‘Halfway’ really shows how I communicate through my music.
If listeners could take away one thing from this single, what would you like it to be?
Laura: That comprises have to be made sometimes in order to move forward from a rough patch and not every argument can be resolved!
Now, this is the part of the interview where we like to get to know more about the artist behind the music. What are some of the things you enjoy to do outside of performing?
Laura: I love anything to do with sports and fitness. My mum is a personal trainer so we enjoy going to the gym together! I’ve also been skiing since I was around 3 and that is the ultimate to me.
What is one song you always keep on your playlist & why?
Laura: ‘Islands in the stream’!! If ever in a bad mood play this song and I guarantee it will make you feel good!
If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Laura: For me, I’d love to perform with Ingrid Andress. I find her music and songwriting skills absolutely incredible.
What was the last movie you watched & did you enjoy it?
Laura: I haven’t watched a film in ages but I have just finished watching the series ‘Down to Earth’ with Zac Efron and I absolutely loved it!
If you could guest appear on any TV show, which show would choose & why?
Laura: I would’ve loved to be on ‘Nashville’ of course because you get to play music and act at the same time!!
What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Laura: Personally I think that if you enjoy singing and want to pursue a music career, then you should learn at least the basics of playing an instrument. When I started to learning to play the piano and guitar it really taught me to be disciplined and persistent. My advice would be to learn and appreciate the art of music before turning it into a career.
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Laura: I really hope you enjoy my next single and if you haven’t pre-saved the song yet you still can until 25th September! Thank you so much for having me!
