Upcoming UK based independent artist Emily Lockett recently released the single “That Girl” & has taken the chance to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the story behind the song, along with getting to know more about the artist behind the music.
Hey Emily, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you tell our readers a little bit about yourself?
Emily: Country pop Singer/songwriter/guitarist from a small village in North Staffordshire.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Emily: My mum says I’ve always loved music even as very small child, however I started playing guitar at age 5 and never put it back down again!
Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?
Emily: I wasn’t sure and I’m still not whether I will be able to make a living from music but am giving it my best shot at the moment.
What are some of the biggest influences that inspire your musical creativity?
Emily: Initially other artists’ music inspired me but now I attend BIMM, I am finding working with fellow students very inspiring.
Not long ago, you released the single “That Girl”, how did the idea to create this song come together?
Emily: I wanted to write something that wasn’t a love song and the chorus had been going round in my head for months before I completed the whole song.
What does the song personally mean to you?
Emily: It’s loosely based on my experience of wanting to be acknowledged for what I do.
What message would you like listeners to take away from this song?
Emily: You can achieve anything if you want it badly enough.
Are you working on any new music releases that you can tell us about?
Emily: Yes, prior to lockdown I was working in the studio on 3 tracks towards my upcoming EP. However all had to be put on hold ftb but have been using my time, writing some new material.
When you are not performing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Emily: My main leisure time activity is playing my guitar.
If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world who would it be & why?
Emily: Taylor Swift- because she has been my inspiration since I was 10 years old.
What 3 words would you say best describe you?
Emily: Dedicated, passionate, feminist.
What was the last movie you watched & did you enjoy it?
Emily: “I can only imagine “ – it’s about a Christian rock band’s rise to fame after the lead singer wrote a song about his father’s death which was a big hit in the early 2000s.
If you could appear on any TV show, which one would you choose & why?
Emily: Probably Killing Eve – because it has very strong female leads in it!
What advice would you offer someone looking to pursue a career in music?
Emily: Don’t let anyone tell you being an independent musician is not a real job!
