Interview: Sandra North Discusses Her Latest Single “Same Story ‘Bout a Broken Heart”!

Rising singer/songwriter Sandra North has steadily been creating waves within the music scene with her passionate energy & captivating musical style.

Now, Sandra has taken the chance to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest single “Same Story ‘Bout a Broken Heart”.

Hello Sandra, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Sandra: Hi, of course! Thanks for having me. So, I was born and raised in a small town in Sweden. Stuck around for a lot of my adult years until I finally realized I needed to follow my dreams and picked up and left for America. Came to LA in 2015 to study music and develop myself as a singer and artist and been here ever since. It’s been life-changing in so many ways and I’m so beyond happy to get to do what I’m passionate about today! Upon teaming up with guitarist/producer Juan Abella, we started writing and recording songs together and now have our second single out as of Feb 7th. Our debut single “Try Again” also made an amazing 15 weeks on the Swedish radio show “P4 Sörmland’s Top 5” this fall/winter. I’m still so so thankful for all the support.

When did you first realise that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?

Sandra: Deep down I think I’ve always known that music was my dream, but it also felt like just that for a very long time, a dream. It took a lot of life experience and tough moments for me to push myself and believe in myself enough to go for it and actually try to pursue a career in music. Today I don’t see any other option. Once you start living your dream there’s no going back.

You recently released the official video for “Same Story ’Bout a Broken Heart”. How did the idea to create this song come together?

Sandra: We’ve worked up a really good teamwork when it comes to writing and we know and understand each other very well. Our ideas come in different ways for every song. In this case, I wanted a specific feeling and emotion that I conveyed to Juan who then came up with this really cool powerful music that we combined with lyrics I wrote. It’s still a magical feeling to me when it all comes together so perfectly.

What is the main inspiration behind the lyrics of the song?

Sandra: I write my best lyrics when I sit down in that exact moment that life hits you. In this case, that’s exactly what happened. Something as simple as a text triggered a lot of old feelings and got me to express a really introverted moment where I reflect on disappointments, frustrations and expectations in life and love. I’ve been through a lot in life and hopefully, someone can relate and maybe find strength and power through my words as I did with so many of my inspirations and idols over the years.

What does the song personally mean to you?

Sandra: It means the world to me. I really feel like this is the song I’ve been dying to write my whole life. It speaks to how I’ve felt so many times and it allows me to get my frustrations out and really sing! I get to show more of my personality and attitude and let more of me simply shine.

Are there any more music releases in the works than you can tell us about?

Sandra: Yes! I definitely have more songs coming! We are in the process of writing and recording as we speak. Unfortunately, the Corona situation made things a little bit more difficult but we are still aiming to have an EP done by early fall. I will also have my next single out in time for summer now. Stay tuned for release date up ahead!

If you could duet with anyone in the world, who would it be & why?

Sandra: Oh, there are so many I would love to sing with. If I had to pick one today it would probably be Chris Stapleton. I’m so in love with that raspy voice of his and that special magic he creates in his songs. Would be a dream to get to harmonize and share a duet with him!

What song do you always keep on your playlist & what does that song mean to you?

Sandra: I’m gonna go with an oldie here and pick “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You” by Heart. It’s kinda an underrated one and it’s always been one of my all-time favourite songs. Remember being really little and wanted to sing along to it so my dad stayed up all night and wrote it down for me by hand. Woke up with the lyrics on my desk the next morning. This was before the internet and google came along so it’s a very fond memory for me. The song is still so captivating to me with its controversial storytelling, strong voices and magic touch. Also written by Robert “Mutt” Lange who later did a lot of country music.

Who would you class as the biggest influence within your music?

Sandra: Growing up I was raised on classic rock and pop so I have a lot of that in me. I’m such a huge Britney and Hanson fan for example. Today I would say I take more inspiration from the big country artists out there as that’s the genre I’m most drawn to. Carrie Underwood is such an inspiration of mine and probably the artist I feel I identify most with regarding my own music and style. Her voice is just so incredible too.

What advice would you offer someone who was looking to pursue a career in music?

Sandra: Believe in yourself and in the fact that you can make it happen for yourself. Also, be prepared to work hard and stay dedicated. Things will not come easy and it’s not a simple industry. It’s staying focused and motivated and really putting down the hours for an extended amount of time that will determine whether or not you’ll be successful. But I would absolutely encourage everyone to follow their dreams!

Finally, is there a message you would like to give to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Sandra: Stay safe and healthy in these times and try to focus on the positive things we still can do! We will continue to work and bring you music this year. Please take a moment and check out our latest music video for “Same Story ‘Bout a Broken Heart” and I hope to see y’all soon.
