Interview: Sabine Discusses Her Brand New Single “Over”!

Rising singer/songwriter Sabine Kerssemakers has released the brand new single titled “Over” & has taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest song.

Hi Sabine, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Sabine: I’m a singer songwriter living in Shropshire. I love dogs and have 2 labradoodles!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Sabine: I can’t remember a time when music wasn’t a huge part of my life, from singing songs at nursery to writing songs in Nashville, the passion was always there.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your work?

Sabine: My musical style could be described as soulful pop with flavours of country and folk.

You are about to release your brand new single “Over” on April 3rd, which sounds amazing by the way. How did the idea to create this song come together?

Sabine: My songs are all based on personal experiences. ‘Over’ is a reflection on a past relationship that I knew wasn’t right and that I knew I had to end, but it was still hard to accept that it was over. Writing about it helped me to accept it and move on.

What does this song personally mean to you?

Sabine: This is a very important song for me, it’s a personal story that’s being told and it’s the first song I’m releasing completely independently and this is a real achievement for me.

How did your family & friends react to this latest single?

Sabine: This song has had a good response from friends and family, they all seem to like it!

What message would you like listeners to take away from the song?

Sabine: Listeners can listen at any level, from just singing along with the chorus to interpreting the lyrics in their own way. In this sense they can take away simply a catchy tune or a heartfelt song about a painful break up, about having to be strong in order to move on.

Do you have any upcoming albums/EP’s that you can tell us about?

Sabine: My 2nd EP ‘Heart of Mine,’ is due for release later in the year. It has five tracks on it, including a co-write I did when I was in Nashville last Spring; together with an acoustic version of ‘Over.”

When you are not performing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Sabine: I love listening to music and adding to my Spotify playlists, reading, cooking, walking my labradoodles and watching films.

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

Sabine: When I put a song on my playlist it normally stays there, but a firm favourite is ‘ Drive’ by the great UK duo Oh Wonder….a great song to chill out to.

If you could take part in any TV show, which would it be & why?

Sabine: Without question ‘Gavin and Stacey,’ I’m practically word perfect after watching the whole series too many times to count!

What would you consider to be your all-time favourite movie & why?

Sabine: This is the hardest question to answer! In these extraordinary and difficult times I’d say ‘Mamma Mia’ ….it’s colourfully frothy and poppy on the outside, but its inside strikes deep within the emotional core. The hits of the unsurpassed pop sensation ‘ABBA,’ put together with the acting goddess that is Meryl Streep, gives me everything I need from a film at the moment.

If you could pick three words to describe you, what would they be?

Sabine: Hard-working, caring, kind.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you about pursuing a career in music?

Sabine: If you don’t try, you’ll never know.
