Kelsey Bovey is an 18-year-old Bristol based aspiring singer/songwriter, who is set to release her debut single in a few weeks time!
This upcoming music sensation is set to release her brand new single “Define Me” on the 5th of July & has given up the opportunity to get to know her a little bit better by speaking to us about her upcoming musical release & what the future might hold for this talented artist.
Hi Kelsey, thank you for answering a few questions with me today. Can you tell the readers about yourself?
Kelsey: I am an 18-year-old singer-songwriter and I have always enjoyed putting my heart into music and wanting to help others through my lyrics. I have signed a publishing deal with award-winning puzzle maker studios and I am due to release my first single on the 5th July!
When did you first discover your passion for music & realised that it was a career that you wanted to pursue?
Kelsey: I first discovered my passion for music around the age of 8, and I always use to write along with different songs but just change the lyrics. As I have grown I have realised that songwriting and music is something I wish to pursue in the future and am thankful that my life has turned out this way.
I know that you have a very exciting time ahead of you with your upcoming musical release. Can you tell us a bit more about it?
Kelsey: So I am releasing an EP in July time, which I can’t even wrap my head around.
I have always been honest with my songwriting and want it to influence audience members & musicians through the emotional meanings within the songs.
I think the meanings behind these songs can relate to many people as these issues still go on around the world in day to day life, and I hope to inspire people that when this happens, there is always a way to turn it around!
What are some of the main inspirations behind this upcoming release?
Kelsey: I have always been inspired by artists such as Ariana Grande, Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie. I feel from the vocal aspect Ariana Grande has influenced this, as I admire the power and energy she puts into her vocals, which changes the overall feel of the song. I was also inspired by Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie, as I find their songwriting to be so honest and influential to young people. Also, the production side of my release had a big impression from Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie due to the impact of the vocal and letting the lyrics have space even with the large instrumental section in the mix.
How did the idea for this release come together?
Kelsey: It has always been a dream of mine to release my own music and to influence young people. I came across a producer from Puzzle Maker Studios and had the honour of performing an original for him, which he seemed really pleased with. Fast forward to now and we have worked in the studio together for the past year on this release and we have been songwriting together and have been working on new music, which can hopefully be released in the future.
Now, this is the part where we like to get to know a bit more about the artist behind the music. What do you like to get up to in your spare time? Any hobbies?
Kelsey: In my spare time, I enjoy going out with my family, whether it’s to a cafe or for a walk in the park. It gives me a chance to relax and spend quality time with the people closest to me. I also volunteer for a local GirlGuiding unit that I enjoy as I like watching them grow and excel through this point in their life and I hope that I can influence them to be themselves and do what they love doing!
What TV show would you consider to be your favourite?
Kelsey: My favourite show is RuPaul’s Drag Race as I admire the beauty of Drag and I am a huge supporter of the LGBT+ community. I enjoy watching something they are all passionate about as well as the process of how they get ready for a performance and where they go in the future!
What song do you always have on your playlist?
Kelsey: Something that is always on my playlist is “Weird People” by Little Mix as it is a feel-good song and gives everyone a chance to express themselves in whichever way they wish to, and for everyone to be themselves. I love the message behind it and it has definitely inspired me as a person!
If you could duet with anyone, who would it be & why?
Kelsey: I think it would have to be Ariana Grande because I admire her vocal talent and her style of music is what I like to listen to. I find her to be so empowering and strong and it would make my childhood dream come true!
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of the Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Kelsey: Thank you for getting to know me today and I look forward to talking to you again in the future.
