Upcoming Country music sensation Hailey Miller is set to release her debut single “The One” on the 24th April 2019 & I have had the pleasure of interviewing this talented artist.
1. Hello Hailey! Thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling me a bit about yourself?
Hailey: Thank you so much for having me, I’m so excited to be chatting with you! Well, I was born and raised in Eugene Oregon, where I fell in love with writing and creating music. I grew up around a lot of music – my aunt was a Country artist as well, which had a big impact on me when I was young. I thought it was so cool! My cousins and I would put on these “concerts” in my grandma’s living room every Thursday. I just always loved it. I picked up guitar when I was 10 and have been playing/writing ever since. Almost 10 years now! There was never a huge Country scene in my hometown, and not really anyone to write with, so I kind of kept it to myself – but I made it a goal to eventually be based out of Nashville. So that’s what I did. I became obsessed. I graduated high school a year early to work at a law firm, saved as much money as I could, and made the leap. Ever since, I’ve been working as an aspiring songwriter/Country artist in Nashville. It’s been everything I dreamed of and more so far.
2. When did you first discover your passion for music?
Hailey: I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. There was never one big moment for me where I made the realization that music needed to be a part of my life, it’s just always kind of been there. I never really imagined myself doing anything else. I guess I’ve always been passionate about it!
3. You will soon be releasing your debut single “The One”. Can you tell me how the inspiration behind this song came together?
Hailey: Of course! The inspiration behind this song came from my first big love that didn’t work out. The relationship was off and on for over two years, and it had finally come to a close. I was taking the time to reflect on it one night – and the song pretty much wrote itself. It’s about coming to the realization that your first love isn’t going to be your last. How you might’ve been the one to teach the guy (or girl) all the important lessons, but you won’t be the one to reap the benefits of those lessons. The song is about coming to accept that. It may not be as romantic and ideal as being the final “one”, but it’s still an important role to play in somebody’s life.
4. When you first wrote this song, did you know that this was going to be your debut into the music world?
Hailey: Not right away, but soon after. I had been thinking about putting something out for awhile, and this song just felt right. I wrote it out of such an honest place and right after writing it, I felt so much peace about my situation. It gave me closure on something I’d been struggling with for a long time, and I figured if it did that for me…maybe it’ll be able to do that for someone else. Releasing this specific song felt like a good way to close out what was a huge chapter of my life, and start a new one all at the same time.
5. With this release, you had the help of producer Simon Gugala. What was it like working with him & did he give you any advice for your debut?
Hailey: Working with Simon was great! He’s so talented, and he really helped me bring the song to life. We had a blast working together, and he was open to listening and experimenting around with the sound until we got it right. He encouraged me to be myself and to have fun with the release.
6. What feedback have you received so far from your family & friends? All good I hope!
Hailey: Yes! So far, everyone that’s heard the song has really liked it. I have such a great network of support around me, and I’m so grateful for that. Everyone has been really encouraging!
7. Have you started planning what’s next after the release? Could we be seeing a tour?
Hailey: I have a few ideas in the works! After the release, I’ll be playing and writing as much as possible. I’m hoping to start working towards an EP here soon. I have some of the songs, but I’d love to take some time to focus on writing and see what else we can come up with. I’d absolutely love to do some touring later this year, to get out and play some new stuff. We’ll see!
8. Who are some of your biggest influences within the music world?
Hailey: I feel like I have so many influences musically. I grew up listening to ALL kinds of music, from rock to country to pop to blues to soul, you name it. But some of my biggest influences sound-wise include Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, Fleetwood Mac, Taylor Swift, and Lee Ann Womack.
9. When you are not performing. What do you like to get up to in your spare time?
Hailey: I love to be with friends and family, travel, and stay active. Being from Oregon, I love being outdoors – whether it’s hiking or going to the beach. Also, since I’m still sort of new to Nashville, I love to explore the city! There’s so much to do here – I’m not used to it, being from such a small town.
10. What advice would you give to anyone who was looking at starting a career in the music industry?
Hailey: You honestly just have to go for it! It can be intimidating, but you’ll be surprised at what happens when you put yourself out there. Confidence is everything! So is networking! Surround yourself with encouraging, creative people. But most of all, you just have to start.
11. Finally, is there anything you would like to tell the readers of the Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
