Not long ago, Within Temptation’s, Sharon den Adel, embarked on her new musical adventure as My Indigo, and released her stunning new album titled under the same name.
I have had the great pleasure of interviewing Sharon about her latest adventure as My Indigo. The creativity behind her brand new album, and getting to know a little bit about the woman behind it all.
You can check out what she had to say below.
Hi Sharon, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview. I would like to congratulate you on your new album. Can you tell me how your brand new musical journey as My Indigo came together and what the inspiration was behind it?
“I experienced writer’s block for the first time in my life and for the first time I had to figure out why this happened and how to get rid of it. It took some time and I found out that I had to write the songs for ‘My Indigo’ before I could write anything else, not knowing if I could ever write music for Within Temptation again.”
Was the process of writing and recording the album a healing one for you?
“Yes it was and I found out that I had to stay close to how I felt inside. I can’t write what I don’t feel. Within Temptation is epic, big and powerful music and that was not how I was feeling & so I found ‘My Indigo’ and that was just the colour of my mood.”
What are some of your favourite tracks that feature on the album and why?
“I love all the songs but my favourites are: ‘My Indigo’ because it’s the core of my album and a story I needed to tell, – ‘Black Velvet Sun’; I simply like the vibe, I just want to dance and loose myself in the music , – ‘Indian Summer’; love the lyrics & vibe , – ‘Crash and Burn’; also the vibe & vocal line.”
You are touring with Within Temptation later this year, but are we likely to be able to see you perform as My Indigo?
“Not as a support act… no :), I have one show and might do a few others.”
When you are not performing, what sort of things do you like you to get up to in your spare time?
“Spend time with family and friends, play tennis, watch movies and paint :)”
There have been a number of times that you have been rumoured to be representing The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. Do you think that this is something you would be interested in pursuing in the future?
“I really don’t know, maybe at the right time who knows but never with Within Temptation.”
Who would you say are some of your musical inspirations?
“Janis Joplin, Nirvana, Tori Amos, Florence and the Machine, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Alice in Chains and Type O Negative.”
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
“Go and check out ‘My Indigo’ and maybe see you on the road somewhere :)”
