Ahead of the upcoming album, Los Angeles-based pop-rock singer-songwriter Erin Greider shares the brand new single “We Could’ve Been Friends”!
This latest single is a pop-rock track that captures the moment a relationship reveals itself as never having been real. Wrapped in driving guitars, easy percussion, and the kind of confessional honesty that turns heartbreak into a clean break.
Erin has kindly take the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of this latest single and you can find the full interview below.
Hey Erin, thank you so much for this interview. Could you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?
Erin: Hi! My name is Erin and I’m the most enthusiastic native Angeleno you’ll ever meet. My music is heavily influenced by film, places, as well as personal relationships and experiences. I released my first album in 2021, followed by multiple singles throughout the years. I’m so stoked to finally be releasing music again.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Erin: I started writing songs when I was around 7 and I just never really stopped. It’s always seemed like the most natural thing in the world. I started playing guitar after seeing Lindsay Lohan’s solo in Freaky Friday. After that I picked up piano, drums, and bass.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Erin: I would say my music style is pop melodies with rock-influenced instrumentation. I’d also say lyrically, my music is honest and with a bit of a dark sense of humor. I find it difficult to talk about hard feelings without a sense of levity.
You just released the new single “We Could’ve Been Friends”. How did the idea for this song come together?
Erin: It’s always hard for me to answer this question because I never sit down to write a song, they just come to me. I would say in hindsight, this song came from a place of being so disappointed (but not mad!) at someone for being so disrespectful that there was nothing left to save. I tend to not like getting too specific because I like to leave space for people to bring their own experience to the song. After I finished writing, like always, I brought the song into the studio and played it on the Wurlitzer for Topher, my producer, and we built the track from there.
The song centres around a moment that ends a relationship for good. How did it feel for you to put those feelings into a song?
Erin: I’m really glad this song came about. I think it’s refreshing to have a song clarifying that a person doesn’t have to be “the one” for it to sting when they let you down.
What does this song mean to you, and what lesson would you like listeners to take from it?
Erin: I think this answer is probably a combination of my previous two answers. I hope that people who relate to this song take away that this person was never meant to be their “forever” and that’s okay. Also, in a perfect world, it would be nice if people prone to these actions and behaviors would see that they don’t have to be disrespectful to end a relationship: “These are situations you can get out of”.
This song is from the upcoming sophomore album. What are some of the things that listeners can anticipate from it?
Erin: My first album really focused on a relationship from beginning to end. I’m really excited for this next album to come out (finally) because I talk about a million different situations and feelings I think people, especially young adults, go through and feel. This album still definitely has a beginning, middle, and end but it’s less linear, a bit more of a collage.
What does this upcoming album personally mean to you?
Erin: This album captures a lot of feelings that I, as well as my friends, had during those years of our lives. When you’re first practicing being an adult, you’re on your own, and navigating a new reality. I hope that people find sections they can relate to and take different songs/topics as seriously or un- seriously as they need to.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Erin:Thank you so much for reading! If you take the time to listen, I hope you like the music and if there is something you relate to, I’m really happy we’ve found each other.
