Nashville-based alt-pop Caroline Romano continues to showcase her unique sense of musical versatility through an ear-catching variety of misty-eyed ballads & fiery alt-rock anthems.
Now, Caroline brings a new edition of her dynamic blend of indie-pop & alt-rock style with the brand new single, “Doesn’t Matter”. The song serves as a double-edged anthem that dives into that unknowing phase of not knowing where you stand with someone relationship-wise & not seeing a long-term future but just knowing that you like them in the moment.
Caroline has kindly talked with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the new single & the inspiration behind it. You can find the full interview below.
Hey Caroline, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by introducing yourself to readers who might be unfamiliar with your music?
Caroline: Thank you for having me! My name is Caroline Romano, and I’m an artist and songwriter based in Nashville, TN. I’m twenty-two, and I’d say my current style of music is somewhat volatile alternative pop.
On May 3rd, you’ll release the new single “Doesn’t Matter”. What was the inspiration behind this upcoming anthem?
Caroline: “Doesn’t Matter” is very much just a stream of consciousness. It was one of those songs where I just wrote down exactly what was going through my mind. The song itself kind of feels unsure as to what it is, which is the whole meaning behind the song.
This song features a choose your own journey vibe by focusing on a double-edged sword relationship. What inspired the lyrics to the song?
Caroline: I wrote “Doesn’t Matter” about that weird in-between you find yourself in at the beginning of a relationship/situationship. You’re not really sure what anything means yet, and you feel like every action and sentence spoken is so important yet so trivial at the same time. It’s all of the things I’ve found myself thinking when I’ve been in similar scenarios, and sort of embracing the “whatever this is, it doesn’t matter, all I know is I really like you” mentality.
The song showcases your spirited twist of indie-pop & alt-rock. What were some of your creative influences behind the instrumental of this track?
Caroline: Holly Humberstone, Lorde, and Taylor Swift were definitely artists I felt inspired by the day I wrote “Doesn’t Matter.” I wanted it to feel strange yet catchy, and poetic but simple all at the same time, and I think each of those artists walk those lines really well.
Did you always plan to release this as a single?
Caroline: I didn’t when I first wrote it because I felt like it would be a very big departure sonically from my latest releases. However, I just kept going back to the song, and I really began to fall in love with it. I truly had to tell myself, “it doesn’t matter.” If I’m not releasing what feels most prevalent in my life and most truthful, I think I’m doing it wrong.
What does this song mean to you & what would you like listeners to take from it?
Caroline: “Doesn’t Matter” really takes me back to some specific places in my life and the experience of being in the early stages of a relationship. It’s an exciting, sweet, kind of feeling, floating between infatuation and purgatory. If this song takes anyone who listens back to those visceral places and feelings and brings that excitement out in them, then that’s all I could ever ask for.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Caroline: I just want to say thank you to anyone who’s listened to my music or supported it in any way. I think any word of advice would be to work really hard at being yourself. As cliche as it may sound, no one else is going to do it better than you are. ❤
