Highly acclaimed Nashville-based country musician Morgan Johnston continues to create waves amongst the global music scene through a notion of ear-catching tracks, which have swiftly accumulated over 1.3 million streams & found their way onto a variety of notable platforms.
Not long ago, Morgan unveiled the brand new 7-track EP “There’s No Going Back”, which contains four already released singles & three brand new highly-anticipated tracks. Morgan has kindly taken the time to chat with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the EP & the creative journey behind it. You can find the full interview below.
Hey Morgan, thank you for this interview. Can you start by telling readers a little bit about yourself?
Morgan: Hi there! I’m originally from Cape Cod, MA. I moved to Nashville in 2016 to pursue a career in country music and it’s been an incredibly fun and fulfilling journey. I’m a big animal lover, I grew up on a small farm with everything from horses, goats, pigs, donkeys, dogs etc. Both of my parents are professional dog trainers. I think I owe this lifestyle to rooting a deep love for country music in my heart since I was a child.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Morgan: I have loved to sing since I can remember. I had a huge obsession with Dorothy and “somewhere over the rainbow” was the first song I fell in love with. That’s my first memory of being passionate about music
Did you always know that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?
Morgan: Not exactly. I think I’ve always had a deep love and desire to sing and express myself through songwriting but I didn’t have the confidence or knowledge about how someone actually pursues a career like this. It didn’t feel realistic and I didn’t see anyone around me doing it so I just assumed it wasn’t in the cards for me. That changed in 2016 when I met someone who was actively doing it and showed me the way a little bit. Once I saw that it was possible and I had a little push in the right direction, I never looked back.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Morgan: I would say my songwriting is bold with complex perspectives that make you think and the sound is dreamy, fun and emotional.
You recently released your EP, “There’s No Going Back”. How did the idea for this EP come together?
Morgan: The name of the EP is actually a line from my first single off the project called “The End”. I loved that the title serves as a double meaning in my life- it’s also a representation of this career path and love for music that I’ve chosen to dedicate my life to. It also symbolizes that there’s no going back now!
What are some of the things that influenced the creative process of the songs featured on the EP?
Morgan: All of the songs are stories about my life. They all are a page out of my book as I am navigating the complexity of love and life being in my mid-twenties.
What does this EP personally mean to you?
Morgan: I think all of the songs hold a special meaning to me individually but the project as a whole is extremely special to me, being my debut EP. I think all of the songs honour this part of my life. All of the happiness, struggle, confusion, and certainly that I’ve experienced. The project as a whole has really given me a lot of new experiences and shined a light on what it really means to me to be an artist.
If listeners could take anything from this EP, what would you like it to be?
Morgan: I hope listeners feel understood yet have the courage to challenge the way they think, I hope they have fun with the songs and feel bold but most importantly I hope they feel empowered to embrace themselves.
Are there any songs that did not make the final tracklist that we could see released at a later date?
Morgan: I have so many songs I have been dying to put out and I can’t tell you how hard it was to choose these first six. I will tell you that there are many more to come to stay tuned!
