Faïnn has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the release of “Sometimes”, along with some details on what we can anticipate regarding the upcoming EP. You can check out the full interview below.
Hey Faïnn, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling readers a little bit about yourself & when you first discover your passion for music?
Faïnn: Thank you for having me! I have honestly loved singing since I can remember. My parents always had music playing in the house, and I feel like I just loved and absorbed every second of it from a very young age. I loved learning the words of my favourite songs they would play. When I was around 10 years old, I decided that I wanted to start trying to write my own songs. I remember some of the first songs I ever wrote being about some of my favourite characters from books that I was reading. Around that same time, I entered my first talent contest. It was the first time I’d ever performed in front of anyone other than my family, and I remember being so nervous. But once I got out on stage, I just took a deep breath and went for it. I absolutely loved singing in front of an audience, and that’s when I decided that I wanted to find a way to do that as often as possible.
Have you always wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?
Faïnn: Yes. I started taking singing pretty seriously early on in life. I absolutely loved it, and it was really the only thing I could ever imagine myself doing. I didn’t quite know how to make it happen, I just knew that I wanted to perform. And so I started trying to find any opportunity I could find to sing. I did a lot of solo singing, but I also started doing musical theatre and I joined a choir in high school. I really just wanted to learn all that I could about singing in every possible way I could think of. So, when it came time to think about college, majoring in music was a no-brainer. I was so fortunate to have parents who supported me and encouraged me to go after what I wanted.
How would you currently describe your musical style?
Faïnn: I would describe my music as indie pop with cinematic influences. I always want my songs to feel relaxed and dreamy, with an honest and encouraging message.
You just released the new single “Sometimes”. How did the idea for the song come together?
Faïnn: I wrote Sometimes with my good friend, singer-songwriter Kane Miller back in 2018. He was in town for a mutual friend’s wedding, and so we decided to schedule a co-write while he was in Nashville. He’s from Canada, so we knew we should probably use this chance while we had it! I came in with the idea that I wanted to write about what I wish I could go back and say to my younger self. Kane loved the idea, and the song poured out of us pretty quickly. I think there is a relatability to wishing that you could go back in time and let yourself know that, despite obstacles and rough seasons, almost everything is going to turn out ok.
For this song, you collaborated alongside songwriter & producer Femke. How did the idea to work on this song together first come together?
Faïnn: Kane and I sent it to Femke right after we finished it. We had originally thought that Sometimes could possibly be a duet between Kane and me, but we decided not to go that route and I kind of forgot about the song. Cut to a few years later, Femke and I were meeting to go over the track list for my EP, and we felt like I needed one more song. Sometimes came up on the list, and it actually turned out to be a perfect fit for the project.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Faïnn: For me, this song is about being kind and taking care of yourself. I wrote this at a time when I felt like I had made some irreversible mistakes, and I was living with a lot of regret over past decisions I had made. The only way I could start to forgive myself was to think about what I would say to a younger version of myself. This song ended up being a reassurance that even though I wasn’t in a good place when I wrote the song, things would eventually turn around and be alright.
What message would you like listeners to take from this song?
Faïnn: Sometimes it’s reassuring to remember that the pain and joys of life ebb and flow. So, even if things aren’t ok in this very moment, hold onto the hope that everything is going to be alright. Sometimes that’s all we have.
This song is from your upcoming debut EP (due to be released in early 2023). What are some of the things we can anticipate hearing from on the EP?
Faïnn: Yes, and I’m so excited! You can expect honest lyrics, encouraging words, dreamy production vibes, and strings. Lots and lots of strings. 😉
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Faïnn: You are fierce and fabulous, and your dreams are worth fighting for! Just keep going.
