Interview: Ella Hartt Discusses The Release Of Her Latest Single “The Story You Tell Yourself”!

Canadian country-pop singer-songwriter Ella Hartt has connected with the hearts of listeners around the world through her ear-catching charismatic style & angelic vocals.

After a pandemic-long break, Ella is back with the brand new single, “The Story You Tell Yourself”. Recorded remotely, Ella shares an uplifting message that reminds people to believe in the best within themselves.

Ella has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the lyrical story behind the song, along with the creative process. You can find the full interview below.

Hey Ella, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Ella: Absolutely! I’m Ella Hartt, a Canadian country pop artist. I love writing songs! My goal is to help others believe the best about themselves and their lives.

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Ella: I come from a musical family – my mom is a songwriter and was an adult contemporary artist when she was my age. As a young child, my mom put out her country children’s album I grew up listening to. All through the years, my Mom and I enjoyed writing songs together. What really drew me to songwriting and music is the connection that you can make with others!

Did you always know that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Ella: I’ve had a variety of interests and jobs growing up. My background is in teaching, but I’ve always loved music and wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. Several years ago, I took the risk and released my first song, Where is that Guy? I’m incredibly grateful for the path I’m on! Some decisions can truly change your life.

How would you currently describe your musical style to someone who is unfamiliar with your music?

Ella: My music definitely has a positive, upbeat vibe. It’s full of pop beats with country elements including the banjo!

You recently released the single “The Story You Tell Yourself”. How did the idea for this song come together?

Ella: I wrote The Story You Tell Yourself with my good friend and co-writer Alex Hughes. We’ve written a lot of great songs together and this one came to be while talking about the impact that social media has on our lives. It definitely can have a positive impact, but also can cause us to question if we’re enough. We wanted to remind everyone of their worth!

How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your earlier releases?

Ella: The Story You Tell Yourself was written and recorded completely remote!  Alex and I wrote the song over Zoom during the pandemic and then I recorded the vocals at home… in my pyjamas! Definitely haven’t done that before! My producer, Elysse Yulo, musicians – Dan Harrison and Daniel Kozlowski, and Alex Hughes also recorded remotely!

Did you always plan to release “The Story You Tell Yourself” as a single?

Ella: Actually, no! There were a few songs I was initially deciding between. Over the pandemic I did a lot of writing, and really wanted to release a song that reflected where I’m at.

I decided after receiving feedback from a mentor at Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), to release The Story You Tell Yourself! I think we can all use a little encouragement sometimes!

What does this song personally mean to you?

Ella: I love this song and can 100% relate to it. Sometimes when I’m feeling down, my mom will say “Listen to your song” and honestly, when I do, I feel a bit better! It’s also my comeback after a pandemic-long break and I’m excited to have new music out in the world!

If listeners could take a message away from this song, what would you like it to be?

Ella: No matter how you feel, You’re enough. You’re strong, You’re brave and You’re beautiful!

Are there any further releases planned that you are able to tell us about?

Ella: Stay tuned for The Story You Tell Yourself music video coming soon!

What message would you offer to someone who is looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Ella: Work hard! Be creative not just with lyrics and your music, but also with how you promote yourself! Learn as much as you can from a variety of people in the industry and join songwriter groups like NSAI!

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Ella: You’re one of a kind like no one else. You’re The Story You Tell Yourself! I’d love to connect with you on social media! Feel free to reach out @ellaharttmusic !
