INTERVIEW: Megan Knight Discusses The Release Of Her Latest EP ‘My Drama’!

Vocally & lyrically acclaimed singer/songwriter Megan Knight has unveiled the brand new 5-track EP titled ‘My Drama’, which centres around the artist’s journey through heartbreak.

At the age of 14, Megan released her first original three-song EP, which quickly caught the attention of Grammy-winning songwriters/producers and engineers in Nashville, TN and Muscle Shoals, AL. Since then, Megan had the honour of receiving 93.7 WSTW’s New Artist of The Year independent artist music award & appeared on season 18 of American Idol.

Megan has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding her latest EP release & the creatively emotional rollercoaster journey behind the songs featured on the tracklist.

Hey Megan, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Megan: Hey, thanks so much for having me! I’m a singer-songwriter based out of Williamstown, New Jersey.

How would you describe your current musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Megan: Country Pop/Roots/Rock Blend.

You recently released the ‘My Drama’ EP. How did the idea for this EP come together?

Megan: I was going through a major heartbreak. I wanted to figure out how to turn my situation and lessons into something positive… I did that by being honest and open about the five stages of grief. Writing this record was therapy for me; it was highly cathartic. I genuinely hope listeners can rely on this record to walk them through any heavy weather.

What are some of the main influences behind the songs featured on the EP?

Megan: I remember driving to the studio every day and wanting to put the feeling of what I was seeing into the music. I was influenced heavily by the landscapes of The Shoals on the dreary days. I incorporated baritone guitars, moody synths, and haunting percussion.

How did you feel when you first heard the finished version of the EP?

Megan: I felt instant relief. It seriously felt like my life’s purpose to get this out there. I really hope it helps people.

What does this EP personally mean to you?

Megan: It means a lot from a spiritual standpoint. I can see how much I’ve grown from the beginning of the writing process to now.

If listeners could take a message away from this EP. What would you like it to be?

Megan: I would like listeners to take away from this EP reassurance that they are never alone in any predicament. There is no perfect person, and as much as people pretend their lives are perfect, honestly, everyone is knee-deep in a shit show at some point. Everyone makes mistakes and gets into turmoil; it’s about being strong enough to face yourself and your demons. It’s about seeing your faults and seeking a desire to grow.

What are some of your favourite tracks from the EP?

Megan: I would have to say “My Drama” and “Take It To The Grave.”

Are there any songs that did not make this EP that we could see released in the future?

Megan: Everything made the EP. ‘Hard Way To Go’ almost didn’t make it, though, since it’s such a rocker. At some point, my producers and I turned to each other and said, you know what, this will be the first single off the record since it sets such a big presence.

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Megan: Be sure to keep an eye out for a brand new single and video later this year. Thanks so much for reading!
