INTERVIEW: Liza Jane Discusses The Release Of The Debut EP ‘Unbreakable’!

Singer-songwriter Liza Jane has unveiled the debut EP ‘Unbreakable’, which unfolds the delicate layers of heartbreak to uncover inner peace & strength within.

At the age of 2, Liza told her parents, “I came here to sing”. From that moment on, music was a driving force in her life. After attending Nashville’s Belmont University, where she studied Classical Voice, she released her debut alt-pop ballad, “People These Days” and secured a spot on the “New Music Nashville” Spotify playlist.

An award-winning singer-songwriter, she’s performed with Grammy Award-winner James Slater (Chris Isaak, Emmylou Harris) and Phil Brown, lead guitarist of Little Feat. Liza Jane has performed globally opening for Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad, & The Doobie Brothers. After relocating to Los Angeles, she began work on her debut EP.

Liza has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution regarding the reveal of the debut EP, along with getting to know more from the artist behind the music. You can check out what Liza had to say below.

Hey Liza, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Liza: Thank you for having me! I am a 23-year-old classically trained pop singer, songwriter, and musician from Key West, Florida. I LOVE to sing. I currently live in Los Angeles, where I recently wrote and recorded 6 songs that you will hear on my upcoming debut EP, “Unbreakable”. But, I also have more than 10 other songs already released on all music platforms if you wanted to take a listen!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

Liza: I’ve had a passion for music and singing since I was 2 years old when I actually told my parents that I came here to sing! I would dance and sing to Cher videos, The Pussycat Dolls, and Celine Dion. I also loved musical theatre and my favourite one till this day, which you may catch me singing somewhere in public on occasion, is The Phantom of The Opera.

Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?

Liza: I have always wanted to be a successful singer in the music industry. I studied classical voice performance at Belmont University in Nashville. I have always loved the feeling of being on stage performing. It is truly my happy place.

How would you describe your music style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

Liza: I would say my musical style is dark pop or pop alternative, also pop dance. I like to combine classical and sultry elements together.

You just released your debut EP ‘Unbreakable’. How did the idea for this EP come together?

Liza: I started writing a collection of songs due to my personal experiences with love, mental health, and my views on the world. When I moved to LA, I started working with producer Gemini Muziq and we recorded these songs. I also collaborated with other established songwriters and was introduced to the rapper “Young Miller Tha Don” who is featured on my song ‘Carry On’ which can be heard on the EP.

What are some of the main influences behind the songs featured on the EP?

Liza: The main influences are from when I went through a tough patch in my life with my mental health and relationships. I put that pain into my lyrics. Also, my mother is a breast cancer survivor and I am dedicating the song ‘Unbreakable’ which is my EP title, to her.

Which are some of your personal favourite songs from the EP & why?

Liza: I love the song ‘Unbreakable’ because I wrote it as an anthem to inspire women to keep going; that they are strong no matter what. One of my other favourites is my song ‘Numb to it All’ because it is very personal to me on how I used to feel and I think my fans will be able to relate to that darkness. But, there are messages of hope that are woven throughout the EP to remind fans that there is always a way out of the dark.

What are some of the things that listeners can expect from this EP?

Liza: My fans can expect meaningful, relatable lyrics and empowerment while being able to dance to the songs and enjoy the uptempo beats. It was important to me to combine both.

What does this EP personally mean to you?

Liza: This EP means everything to me. It means showing the world who I am and what my music is about. I want to entertain but also move and inspire people through my music.

If listeners could take anything away from this EP, what would you like it to be?

Liza: I want them to take away the fact that they are not alone and can overcome any obstacle and battle thrown their way. That even though life is hard, nothing stays the same and it will get better.

Are there any songs that did not make the final tracklist that we may see being released in the future?

Liza: Yes, there are a lot! One of them is called ‘LA is For Rock N’ Roll’ and I will be performing it at my EP Release party with Brian Viglione on drums (Dresden Dolls, NIN, Violent Femmes).

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?

Liza: I love to get outside in nature and go hiking, go to the beach, go for walks, and just do anything to get grounded and clear my mind from stress. I love to meditate and do yoga. I also love going to new places, restaurants, and concerts, with friends.

If you could perform a duet with anyone, who would you choose & why?

Liza: I would want to perform with The Weeknd because I love all of his music and the lyrics. A lot of his music is relatable and his vocal abilities are amazing.

What advice would you offer to someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?

Liza: I would tell them to go for it and not to listen to anyone that is discouraging or unsupportive. Follow your dreams and don’t look back. I did and I couldn’t be happier about coming out to LA and making this EP!

Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?

Liza: We ALL have the ability to be “Unbreakable”, to persevere, to overcome obstacles, to let go of toxic people in our lives, to have fun again.
