Following on from the highly successful launch of her debut EP ‘Perspective‘, which topped the iTunes charts at number 1, UK singer-songwriter Caitlin Mae has unveiled the brand new single “Tunnel Vision”.
“Tunnel Vision” exudes a different vibe to her previous releases and is written from a place of vulnerability. It tells a story of becoming all too used to being let down by the same person who you can’t help forgiving each and every time, whilst acknowledging that the heart wants what it wants.
Caitlin has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest single & the journey towards its release. Check out what Caitlin said below.
Hey Caitlin, thank you so much for this interview. You are about to release the brand new single “Tunnel Vision” on November 19th. How did the idea for this song come together?
Caitlin: Hey Jess, thank you so much for interviewing me. The idea behind “Tunnel Vision” was heavily inspired by the difficult journey of naively relying on somebody who has proved time and time again to be incapable of offering the stability and support you were searching for in them. I think it’s so easy to fool yourself into believing that the bond is unbreakable and the relationship is perfect when really, beneath the surface, you are the one putting the effort in to keep the relationship afloat. Even so, losing that person can be so devastating as the heart wants what it wants.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Caitlin: “Tunnel Vision” to me feels like a journal entry, a personal experience that turned into a song and released so much emotion allowing it to become a lesson rather than a painful reminder of what I lost. It’s about finally coming to terms with the fact that this person was my biggest weakness, I gave so many get out of jail free cards and constantly forgave, while secretly blaming myself. I realised that was crushing my spirit and I finally decided to take back control of my life with this song.
If listeners could take something away from this song, what would you like it to be?
Caitlin: If listeners could take something away from this song, I would like it to be confidence in who they really are and not who everyone wants them to be and the feeling of true independence without needing somebody to stand by their side. I think it’s so important to be proud of yourself, even without validation and if it takes searching long and hard to find the courage you lost, do it, because the feeling is priceless and so worth it.
How would you compare the creative process behind this single to your previous releases?
Caitlin: I think the creative process behind every new release is slightly different as I always attach emotion to the writing stage. Sometimes I write a new verse or chorus, especially in the initial phases of the song, and think it’s too deep and maybe I shouldn’t draw on such raw experiences, but I like the way it pushes me out of my comfort zone and that vulnerability has always been one of my favourite things that song writing has to offer.
How did your family & friends react to your upcoming single or have you been keeping this secret until the release date?
Caitlin: A lot of my family and friends don’t know the details of the upcoming release but I’m excited to share it with them very soon. Although, my nuclear family (Mum, Dad and Brother) know everything there is to know and always listen to my demos before the final cut and it’s an experience that I really love sharing with them.
This song is set to feature on your forthcoming EP ‘Blind Spot’. What can listeners expect from this upcoming EP?
Caitlin: The EP “Blind Spot” is a combination of songs that stem from hurt and heartbreak but also the discovery of a new path that you’re not travelling, one that makes you happier than you have ever been. If there is one thing I want people to expect from this EP, it’s total honesty and authenticity. I don’t only want to write songs on my best days, but I want to write from the heart on my worst.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
