Upcoming singer-songwriter Asher Knight has caught the attention of fans & critics across the globe through his relatable & inspiring pop musical style, which had led to him touring alongside acts such as Boyzone & The Vamps.
Asher now looks to once more catch the attention of music lovers everywhere with the emotionally heartfelt single “Alone” & has kindly spoken to Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about his latest release.
Hey Asher, thank you so much for this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Asher: I’m a singer songwriter from Yorkshire. Over the last few years I have been releasing music and been able to go on tour with hugely inspiring artists from Boyzone to The Vamps.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Asher: When I was 16 I was a dancer but sadly got injured, at the time I was told why not try some other things out so I decided to do drama as I thought I’m a terrible singer. Eventually I ended up having to sing in a lesson, after months of avoiding it I ended up singing, “Can’t help falling in love” by Elvis Presley and in that moment I fell in love with music forever.
When is the first time that you can recall performing in front of a live audience?
Asher: First time performing in front of an audience was at an event in the US, for the military. I was so scared and nervous but after I wanted to do it all over again.
Have you always known that you wanted to pursue a career within the music industry?
Asher: I had no intention of going into music, if it wasn’t for my teacher having me sing in a lesson I would never have known I wanted to go into music.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Asher: My music is pop with a focus on lyrics that are relatable and inspiring. I have been inspired for years by artists like Taylor Swift who’s lyrics are able to connect with anyone.
You are about to release the brand new single “Alone” on February 5th, which sounds amazing by the way. How did the idea for this single come together?
Asher: Thank you! The idea really came from the fact I never felt worthy of being loved. I felt alone and lost but eventually realised I was loved, which was difficult and hard to accept but in the end I started to understand I was good enough to be loved.
How would you compare the creative process behind this song to your previous releases?
Asher: Since my last releases I have really grown as a writer and tried to explore even further into difficult emotions.
This is one of the most personal songs I have written and shows a huge insight into how I felt for years.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Asher: Acceptance of love. I have struggled with realising that love is all around, even though I couldn’t see it.
If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?
Asher: I hope they listen and realise through the darkest times, they are LOVED and never alone.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are currently able to tell us about?
Asher: So this year I am releasing a new EP which I am very excited about. It’s the most personal EP I have done and hopefully show people a true insight into me as a person.
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Asher: I have really gotten into my fitness and dance. It’s been difficult this year to do them but I find it helps relax me which is important as sometimes I struggle to relax.
What is one item that you could not live without?
Asher: My phone!! I’m not addicted and try to restrict how much time I spend on it but I find it so useful, as you can do everything on it.
If you could possess one superpower, which would you choose & why?
Asher: I would love to be able to fly which is odd as I’m not great with heights in the slightest but it would be great !! Literally no need to deal with traffic on the road or get on a plane, I would just be able to fly there myself.
What is one song you always keep on your playlist?
Asher: “Read all about it” by Emeli Sande, that song inspires me so much. The lyrics are incredible and her voice gives me goosebumps.
What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Asher: Work hard and keep focused. It can be difficult but if you keep working you will achieve amazing things.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Asher: My message is really to be true to yourself and know no matter what happens, they are important and loved. Life can be like a fog, not being able to see clearly but love, kindness and hope will make it clear and does move any obstacle in the way.
