Upcoming UK singer-songwriter Sophia has recently released the new single titled “Skin” & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her latest musical piece, along with finding out more about the artist behind the music. You can find out what she had to say below.
Hey Sophia, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?
Sophia: Hello! It’s my pleasure, thank you so much for the questions! Im Sophia, a singer songwriter from the north east of england. I love all things music and can’t wait to share more!
When did you first discover your passion for music & knew that it was something that you wanted to pursue?
Sophia: I know it’s a bit cliche but I have always loved to sing and perform, and couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I knew it was something I wanted to do from being little, I always wanted to be a singer! Growing up i realised more and more how hard it can be, but you have to follow your dreams, if it’s something you love that’s all that matters!
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Sophia: As an artist I have always had a vision of how I wanted my music to be but naturally it takes some time to experiment and get there, but I think I’m really starting to find a sound I’m happy with. I would say my style is dreamy chilled singer songwriter esc pop, with messages in my music that i hope people can relate too!
You recently released the new single “Skin”, which sounds amazing by the way. How did the idea to create this song come together?
Sophia: Thank you so much, i’m so glad you like it! Skin was based on the idea of someone who once meant everything to you, and now you can’t look at them in the same way. Kind of sad, but also a good thing, as you’re choosing to walk away!
How would you compare the creative process behind this song, to your previous release?
Sophia: Well where do i begin, 2020 has been a bit of a switch up for everyone. I wrote and recorded Skin all at home in the one room. However the experience was amazing, it was so chilled and came together so naturally. I loved it.
What did your family & friends think about your latest release?
Sophia: They loved it! I have a group chat with my best friends that I always send my music in, they’re always honest! One of my friends said she listened when she was walking home from work and felt like she was in a film which made me smile.
What does the song personally mean to you?
Sophia: This song means a lot to me as it’s a bit of a new chapter of music of mine. I think making your way as an artist can be hard and such a process but I’m so so excited for this next wave of music and journey. I’m just so excited to share it! Ahh!
If listeners could take anything away from this song, what would you like it to be?
Eve: I would say, look, if someone does something horrible to you that is a them problem, not a you problem. It isn’t something you should feel bad about, your time is way more precious. They made the choice to hurt you so you’re more than entitled to walk away and not feel guilty. If something doesn’t make you happy, leave, your happiness is the most important thing in the world!
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Sophia: I love to binge good series, spend time with my family, eat chocolate and just do things that make me happy!
What was the first album that you can recall purchasing & do you still listen to it now?
Sophia: Ah wow thats a hard question, I used to love going into Whsmith and buying an album for my walkman!! I think it might have been fearless, so predictable but we love it, 100% still listen now!
If you could perform a duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?
Sophia: That’s so hard, I think i’m going to go with Elvis – can’t help falling in love with you! I would hope i could still sing but i might be a bit shocked he came back from the dead to sing with me!
What song do you always keep on your playlist?
Sophia: Hmmm Kate Nash – Foundations. Who doesn’t love that song.
What is one item that you can’t live without?
Sophia: I was going to say chocolate but i’m not sure that classes as an item, so i’ll go with my headphones!
If you could possess one any superpower, what would you choose?
Sophia: To be a time traveller, backwards and forwards!
What advice would you offer to someone who was looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Sophia: Go for it, don’t let anyone make you feel silly for wanting to follow your dreams and never compare your journey to others, you are you and no one else is that!
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Sophia: Thank you so much for taking the time to read my answers, apologies if they’re a bit random but hey ho it was lovely chatting and i really hope you enjoy SKIN! Stick around for the rest of the journey, i can’t wait!💘 Sophia x
