Interview: Hicktown Breakout Discusses Their Upcoming Single “Get Your Boots On”!

Hicktown Breakout our a five-piece Bristol-based group, who are about to release their brand new single “Get Your Boots On” on the 7th December 2020 ahead of their upcoming EP early next year.

This talented group has kindly spoken with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about their upcoming single release. Check out what they had to say below.

Hey Hicktown Breakout, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

Established in 2018, Hicktown Breakout set-out to bring the UK Country Rock music that was a little different from what was in the music scene at the time, and still is. We pride ourselves on creating original Country influenced modern music bringing an upbeat rocky edge coupled with engaging lead and backing vocals.

Proudly nominated as UK Country Group of the Year 2020, Bristol based five piece

Released in November 2019, the self-titled Debut EP reached number 36 in the UK Album Charts and number 3 in the iTunes UK Country Chart.

Since releasing their very first very single in September 2019 ‘Jo Lee‘ and subsequent EP, the band have made appearances on various radio stations including BBC Radio & BBC Live Lounge’ as well as many other radio stations across Australia, parts of Europe and the United States of America.

We’re now set to release a single ‘Get Your Boots On’ in December with our brand new EP available mid-January 2021.

When did each of you first discover your passion for music?

There’s 5 of us in the band all with various levels of musical tastes and experience but everyone had found their passion for music in their early years. All of us share a passion for Country, Rock & Blues.

How did the idea to form Hicktown Breakout first come together?

Darren (Lead Singer) and Steve Tipling (Lead Guitarist) had been playing together in a rock band in previous years but decided in 2018 to form a Country Rock Band. Darren’s heart and passion has always been with Country from a young age and Steve’s has been Rock, so we thought timing was great to form Hicktown Breakout as Country Music in the UK was fast becoming popular.

Half the Hicktown Breakout name came from a Jason Aldean song… called Hicktown. The word Breakout was added to give a feeling of 5 guys looking to take something amazing out of a small town and show the world..

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

That’s a good question? We’ve never set out to create music to fit in a specific genre, but we always knew we wanted to write and perform Country influenced rock music. Some critics have described us as ‘Cross Over Country’ where others considered us as Country Rock or Southern Rock.

Our latest Single and EP is very rocky!

You are about to release the brand-new single “Get Your Boots On”. How did the idea to create the song come together?

The idea came from a simple guitar riff that that just transformed into this upbeat dance song. When you listen to the song, you’ll find yourself chanting along to the Chorus.. You’ll know what we mean when you listen to it – I real party tune!

What would you consider to be the main inspiration behind this song?

Lyrically, the concept was to write a song to bring fun and enjoyment at a time where there is uncertainly and depression with this whole COVID situation. We wanted to write a great party song!

What does the song personally mean to you?

For all of us in Hicktown Breakout this song just reflects our fun, outgoing personalities and the meaning really is for us to get people dancing and having a great time..

What message would you like listeners to take away from this upcoming release?

As said before, we wanted this single to be a fun party song. If our fans who listen to it can forgot about the challenges of 2020 and get into the party spirit, then that’s what we’d love you to do.

What are some of the things that each of you enjoys outside of music?

Bubba: Shooting and collecting gold.

Zach: Spending time in his workshop making stuff.

Jason: Camping & Xbox.

Darren: Walking dogs.

Steve: Xbox & Pubs.

What is one item that each of you can’t live without?

Bubba: Drum sticks.

Zach: Cheese.

Jason: His beard.

Darren: Dogs.

Steve: Jack Daniels.

If you could possess any super-power what would you choose & why?

Bubba: To Freeze Time – so he can continually live in the moment.

Zach:Teleportation – Because he’s lazy.

Jason: Flying – because he owns quite a few capes.

Darren: Breathe under water (useful for breathing lager).

Steve: Xray Vision – because my eye sight it going!
