Upcoming indie-pop musician Tia Gostelow has been creating an impact on the music scene with her sublime vocals & musical creativity, which has gained high praise from many listeners around the world.
Tia recently made waves with the stunning new album ‘Chrysalis’ & has kindly taken the time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the release of this sensational musical piece.
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Tia: I knew that I wanted to be a singer after I saw Taylor Swift playing at a country music festival when I was 7. She had only just released Love Story and was still wearing her blue sparkly dress with her silver sparkly guitar and I just fell completely in love with her.
What is the first song that you can recall performing in front of a live audience & do you still sing it now?
Tia: The first song I ever sang in front of an audience was Our Song by Taylor Swift, I think I was only 7! I definitely don’t sing it now but it holds a big spot in my heart.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Tia: I guess it would be modern-80’s-indie-pop?
You recently released the brand new album ‘Chrysalis’. How did the idea to create this album come together?
Tia: I was doing a lot of co-writing last year and I guess we had a collection of songs that all seem to fit together really well and Chrysalis came to be!
What would you consider to be the main inspiration behind the songs featured on this album?
Tia: The main inspiration was definitely when I went through a bit of a dark place in my life. I was living in Brisbane by myself away from my family and partner and I was extremely lonely and anxious. I feel like all of my anxiety really came to a head during this time and I let it consume me.
How did your family & friends react to your album?
Tia: I think that they like it haha! My parents have known every single word since they heard the demos.
What does this album personally mean to you?
Tia: It definitely reminds me of a time where I wasn’t at my best but I look back on it and I know that I needed to go through that to be where I am today. It’s a nice reminder that I can get through dark times.
If listeners could take away anything from this album, what would you like it to be?
Tia: I definitely want them to have a boogy to it and to have fun when listening to it but I think the lyrics are super relatable to most people. I hope that it helps even just 1 person when they’re feeling lonely or sad.
Are there any songs that were considered for the album that we could see being released at a later date?
Tia: Yes there are but I need to keep it hush hush haha!
What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?
Tia: I love love love pottery! And also having a cheeky drink on the weekend with friends.
If you could perform a duet with anyone on the planet, who would you choose & why?
Tia: Probably Lana Del Rey. Love that woman!
What advice would you offer to someone looking to pursue a career within the music industry?
Tia: Follow your gut! Always listen to your gut instincts, you know when something is right and when something is wrong. Also try and surround yourself with a team that has your best interests always and that is always in your corner.
Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Tia: Thank you so much for reading this interview! X
