Interview: DASHA Discusses The Release Of Her Upcoming Single

Upcoming singer-songwriter DASHA is about to release the upbeat yet heartbreaking new single “Better Than She Did” on November 20th 2020.

DASHA has kindly taken some time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about her forthcoming release. Find out what she had to say below.

Hey DASHA, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself?

DASHA: Hey thanks so much for having me- I would love to! I was born and raised on the central coast of California then went to Nashville for two years for school. I’m twenty years old and just signed with Quadio Records, partnered with Sony Disruptor in the first few months of quarantine, which has been a total silver lining in all of this madness. I released my first single with my new team in October called “None Of My Business,” and my next single “Better Than She Did” drops November 20th!

When did you first discover your passion for music?

DASHA: My passion was discovered first through dance and musical theatre actually. I was obsessed with the idea of being the source of entertainment for people. I had always really liked words and the way certain phrases and cadences fit together. After I picked up the piano and guitar, songwriting came super naturally. I have an older brother, Bardo who is also in the music industry, and he has always been one of my biggest inspirations.

Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?

DASHA: Absolutely. There’s never been a doubt in my mind. I recognize how fortunate I am to have the most supportive parents who have been my number one supporters since day one.

How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?

DASHA: It definitely moves around stylistically from super stripped vocal heavy songs to having big hip hop beats and 808s. I’m influenced by pop and R&B lyrics and melodies. All my songs are going to have background vocals and vocal pads, guaranteed. I love a lot of different styles so I guess my music is a mixture of whatever I’m listening to currently.

You are about to release your brand new single “Better Than She Did” on November 20th. How did the idea to create this song come together?

DASHA: My friend Alex Veronneau and I had a write planned this past January and the night before, I was messing around on the guitar and wrote the first verse of Better Than She Did. I brought it into the co-write the next day, not really knowing where the idea was going. Better Than She Did was born and I knew right away that this song was gonna be a special one.

How would you compare the creative process behind this single, to your previous release?

DASHA: The hardest part for me in releasing a song is figuring out what I want the song’s production to be like. Sometimes I’ll write a song acoustically and have a super clear idea of what I want to hear production wise, and other times it’s really hard to know what I want going from completely stripped to full production. BTSD was a difficult one at first but we figured it out after seeing a few ideas through. Tony Chetta killed it.

How have your family & friends reacted to this upcoming single? Or have you been keeping it secret until it’s official release?

DASHA: I was too excited about this release to keep it a secret. Right after I got the very first demo bounce I was sending it to all my friends to see what they thought.

What does the song personally mean to you?

DASHA: I was emotionally exhausted and honestly still caught up on someone who made a mark on me a few months before. I wrote Better Than She Did in a state of jealousy and sadness almost as a reminder to myself that I’m better than that.

If listeners could take away anything from this song, what would you like it to be?

DASHA: Seeing other girls as your “competition” is so toxic. It’s what our society has conditioned females to do a lot of the time. I got caught up in that feeling writing Better Than She Did.

What are some of the things you enjoy outside of music?

DASHA: I am really into fashion, thrifting and playing volleyball!

If you could possess any superpower, what one would you pick?

DASHA: I’d want to be able to fly very, very fast to anywhere in the world.

What song do you always keep on your playlist & why?

DASHA: I have a playlist on Spotify called “Dashieee Jamz” which is a collection of all the songs I’ve ever been obsessed with. There’s too many to list in this interview so go follow my playlist instead!

If you could perform a duet with anyone in the world, who would you choose?

DASHA: Taylor Swift, All Too Well, in a sold out show at Bridgestone arena in Nashville. Twelve year old me would freak.

Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
