Toronto based electro-pop/Indie musician Amanda Frances has recently created waves with the release of her brand new single titled “Play With My Hair”!
Amanda has kindly taken some time to speak with Fierce & Fabulous Revolution about the release of this incredible new single. You can find out what she had to say below.
Hey Amanda, thank you so much for agreeing to this interview. Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Amanda: Hi! I’m Amanda Frances. Electropop artist. Songwriter. Natural redhead. Aries with a double Scorpio rising/moon, though this girl told me once never to tell anyone that or they’d be terrified of me. Whoops. Oh, and I just released a new single called “Play With My Hair.” Yay!
When did you first discover your passion for music?
Amanda: Honestly, I think it was kind of just innately in me from the day I was born. My mom has photos of me as a toddler stealing anything I could get my hands on (hairbrush, toothpaste bottle, you name it) to use as a microphone.
What is the first song that you can recall performing in front of a live audience?
Amanda: Hmm I do recall doing a rather mortifying jazz dance number to the dance/disco remix of “If You Could Read My Mind” somewhere around age 6. Going to go back to attempting to repress that one now. The first song I can remember solo-ing (and ironically enough, the first song I ever recorded in a studio) was a cover of “My Immortal” by Evanescence. Unfortunately my mom won’t let me even attempt to repress that one.
Have you always known that music was a career that you wanted to pursue?
Amanda: Absolutely. I had no idea how on earth I was going to go about making that happen, but it was pretty clear to me and everyone around me since I was little that I knew exactly what made me happy. A series of very serendipitous moments led to the next part of the story.
How would you describe your musical style to someone unfamiliar with your music?
Amanda: Indie-electropop. Emotional.
You recently released the brand new single “Play With My Hair”. How did the idea to create this song come together?
Amanda: Actually, all of my friends give me a hard time for this song because it’s a VERY well known fact that I absolutely hate anybody touching my hair. I guess the one exception to that happens to be if I’m dating someone? Then it feels like a very sweet, intimate thing. So I guess that lended itself to this very vulnerable imagery for me.
What does this song personally mean to you?
Amanda: The whole song is a very honest depiction of that moment when you know your heart is about to absolutely shatter, but you just want to hold it off for one second longer and be comforted by the same person who’s doing the breaking. I guess I found something bittersweet in that.
What message would you like listeners to take away from this song?
Amanda: Don’t be afraid to feel your feelings. That’s how you move through them and come out better on the other side.
Do you have any further musical releases planned that you are able to tell us about at the moment?
Amanda: So many! I’ll be dropping a new song every couple months for the next year. Honestly, I’m so impatient and I’m just dying to put them all out right now.
Finally, is there a message that you would like to share with the readers of Fierce & Fabulous Revolution?
Amanda: Hit me up on Instagram @amandafrancesmusic – I want to be friends. If you’re reading this blog, I like you already.
